Easter fun at Toti Bowling Club

Luckily the rain stayed away until after play was finished.

THIRTY six teams took to the greens of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) on Easter Saturday and Sunday for the annual Pro 10 tournament.

After the preliminary games on Saturday, the field was split into plates A and B. Luckily the rain stayed away until after play was finished. Overall winners were R Jacobs and Kevin Ferguson from Lahee Park Bowling Club. In second place were last year’s winners from ABC, Brian Masters and Keith West. Top of plate B were Julie Sutherland and George Glaves and there was a tie for second place between Lofty van Tonder and Barry Bush, as well as Glen Scorgie and Shane Wilkinson.

Section winners were Alec Stirzaker and Ian Mills; John Hewgill and Trevor Zulch; Tokkie de Kock and Dawn Schauer; Doug and Lynn Joubert; Mike Pitchers and Willem Pelser; and William and Innocent Sithole. Many thanks to the club’s sponsors Di and Ray Robinson, greens staff, bar staff, Mike Groom for registration, the kitchen staff, Ian McDonald for the great music during play and Alan McGregor for the scoring.

In the Women’s Monthly Trips, winners were Jeanne Alexander, Tokkie de Kock and Jane Coetzee; runners-up were Nicky Stirzaker, Jackie Holdrick and Talla Stephens-Viviers and the second session went to Vera Broskie, Jacqui Fouché and Dani Cardoso, and Vera Broskie won the 100 board.

In the Men’s Monthly 2-4-2 the winners were Brad and Brian Cox, in second place were Barry Buckland and Vish Studinski and the second session was won by Mike Groom and Ray Robinson.

Draws are on the board for the Women’s Nominated Pairs and the Open Singles, dates to be carded. The women’s league teams are also on the board. Burger and bowls will be held on Thursday, 2 May with registration to be completed by 5pm. The next two rounds of the Oppenheimer Mixed Pairs will take place on Sunday, 28 April. Come along and watch some top bowlers in action.

The list is on the board for the Lodge Grantleigh Charity Bowls Day on Wednesday, 1 May. This will be a fun day with non-bowlers welcome. More details available on the SUN website, as well as ABC’s Facebook page. Note TGIF will be back on Friday, 26 April.
