“Not only was this an amazing competition but we also used this platform to raise money for Operation Bobbi Bear in support of the abused children they look after,” said Toti Seals Club coach Wendy van der Hammen. “This initiative was suggested by Toti skater Claudia Coetzer. We had our skaters each bring in an item of food and we also collected cash donations from our skating parents. Altogether, besides plenty of bags of food that we collected, we also raised R750 which we used to buy a Makro food voucher.”

Golden Eagles girls winners, Jolandri Cilliers (first), Thapelo Moumakwa (second) and Cayley Corder (third).

After the competition, Wendy and her husband Marco handed over the food and Makro voucher to Bobbi Bear. “We are really pleased our skating fraternity was able to give back and help those children who are much less fortunate. We not only had a great competition, we also felt great about being able to help this wonderful organisation, Bobbi Bear.”
