Ugu Bodyboarding Association’s first round of trials test riders

“The day started off with the first surfed in a friendly two to three foot left and right wave, with almost no wind,” _ Ugu Bodyboarding Association’s liaison officer and photographer, Shaun Venter.

NEXT year’s bodyboarding trials for the SKZN and Ugu Bodyboarding Association kicked off bright and early on Sunday morning, 11 November with the first round of trials held at Warnadoone Beach.

From 5.30am the riders began scoping out Amanzimtoti’s different breaks and finally decided that Warnadoone, just north of Baggies Beach, offered the best conditions.

“The day started off with the first heat surfed at 7am in a friendly two to three foot left and right wave, with almost no wind,” explained Ugu Bodyboarding Association’s liaison officer and photographer, Shaun Venter.

“This, however changed and by 11am when the westerly picked up, the waves started closing out and made for challenging conditions. However, this pushed riders to make the most of it, with some good scores being achieved.”

Shaun explained that the various bodyboarding associations are all having trials at the moment, which is in preparation for the upcoming SA championships to be held in Port Alfred in 2019 over the Easter weekend.

“This event sees riders from all over South Africa come together to promote bodyboarding and compete for the national title in the various categories,” he said.
