RUN Walk for Life Amanzimtoti (RWFL) members took part in one of the most historic races on the KZN race calendar, the Mandela Marathon 42.2km, 21.1km and 10km events.

None of these events was easy – much like Madiba’s life, they were full of uphills and downhills, yet very rewarding once completed.

Marinel Solomon, who only started training in January, did the 10km in a respectable time of 1:36:00. Well done to Marinel, who set an example for others to follow. RWFL is proud of her achievement.

RWFL’s Reg Groves did the 21.1km in 2:58:00 (walking), while Lizette Botha’s 4:51:00 in the marathon qualified her for next year’s Comrades. Well done Lizette, now it’s just training to improve your time. Both are considered good times for this event.

As it is still dark in the mornings and early evening, wear reflective clothing to be visible while running, stay on the right-hand side of the road running against traffic and do not run with music in both ears. Use one earpiece only, so as to remain aware of what is going on around you.

Join Jan and Lizette Botha at Amanzimtoti High School on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday at 5pm.
