Mambas enjoy wildlife sights as they ride rolling hills of Eston

Many thanks to those who normally sleep in and to the Roadies who sacrificed their Sunday training ride to come and support the ride.

THE Mambas (mountain bike riders) of Amanzimtoti Cycling Club have organised their monthly rides with the first Saturday of every month being an outride to somewhere, and interesting rides have already been organised.

Last Saturday was the first Saturday in February and their outride was to iNsingizi Game Reserve.

They joined forces with Berg Freewheelers and the outing was an absolute stunner. It’s not often one can start a day riding past herds of zebra, wildebeest and eland. The weather and track conditions were perfect too and in total, there were about 30 riders.

iNzingizi must have one of the best single track around, with hosting skills to match. There was coffee, scones and fruit before the ride and then a super breakfast afterwards. For most of the Berg Freewheelers, it was their first time at iNsingizi and hopefully they will again join forces with the Mambas to ride the rolling hills of Eston.

Occasional chilled Sunday afternoon rides are organised too, which are posted on the Amanzimtoti Cycle Club Facebook page. All riders ride to the slowest rider’s pace as this allows for the lesser skilled riders to get some valuable riding advice from the more skilled riders.

Remember Mambas have booked the track around Amanzimtoti Sports Centre on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 6pm. Preferably three people should ride together and the no helmet, no ride rule applies. Follow the track in the directions of the arrows and do not go against the flow of other riders.

Sometimes it’s not easy to get up at the crack of dawn, and these days it is still dark at about 4.30am, but when the ride is in aid of a worthy cause such as the Sunflower Fund, it makes it just that much easier. Amanzimtoti Cycling Club has nominated a few charities to support this year and Sunflower Fund is one of them. This non-profit organisation is committed to giving the hope of life to individuals diagnosed with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders who are in need of a life-saving blood stem cell transplant. They do this by growing a healthy, effective, ethnically diverse registry of committed donors and playing an active role in the process of saving lives through blood stem cell transplants. The money raised for the charity will help in some small way. Many thanks to those who normally sleep in and to the Roadies who sacrificed their Sunday training ride to support the ride.

Thirsty Whale was once again supportive. From the bottom of the ACC members’ hearts, big thanks go to Cindy and her staff. The breakfast was sponsored by Toti Cycling Club but it received a special discount.
