Coy, Andy, Maggie lead ABC’s mixed trips field

Sadly Babs Swart passed away last week, so our deepest condolences are sent to family and friends

THE highly popular annual Hypersure mixed trips started last Friday evening at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).

The Hypersure staff were there to hand out free goodies and lucky prizes, and after the game, members enjoyed a jacket potato with savoury topping.

After the first round, Coy Schrauwen, Andy Jones and Maggie Robertson lead the field of 20 teams, however, with another five games to go, anything could happen.

A second evening competition, the Brad Cox mixed singles also kicked off under floodlights last Wednesday evening, and there were some close games played. Going through from the first section are Dave Kemp, Gustav Somers, Marietjie van der Bergh, Paul Davies, Alec Stirzaker and Michelle Pitchers. There will be two more round-robin legs before the knock-out stages.

A packed TGIF audience held its breath when the must-win key draw commenced. Everyone was hoping their number would be drawn. That luck fell to Cleve Hein, so well done to him. Next week the pot returns to R1,000. The 100 board was won by Tokkie de Kock, but sadly Betty Holdrick was not present to win the attendance draw, so next week it will be worth R400.

Lists are up for the men’s handicap singles, mixed pairs and men’s league. Men are asked to put their names down for league even if they are not available every week. Reserves are vitally important and are always needed.

For anyone still wishing to enter the women’s senior or open singles, the lists will come down on 19 January.

Don’t forget that the greens are open for tabs-in social games on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1pm for 1.30pm, and Sundays at 8.30am for 9am as usual.

This week birthday greetings go to Keith West, Ben Venter, Leigh Callaghan and Gladys Hughes.

Sadly Babs Swart died last week, so the club’s deepest condolences are sent to family and friends, especially her long-time friend Shirley-Ann Joubert.
