Super Kings secures win over Cardinals with early lead

Despite the loss, KZNBA Promo Cardinals did collect 17 hits in the high-scoring affair.

KZN Baseball Association’s Promo Cardinals team fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 21-14 loss to Super Kings on Sunday, 3 December.

Super Kings scored on a home run by Gordon Wright, a single by Jeremy Russen, a single by Brad Holloway – all in the first inning – as well as a groundout by Sean King, an error and a single by Holloway in the second inning.

Despite the loss, KZNBA Promo Cardinals collected 17 hits in the high-scoring affair. Ackermann, Keith Dempsey, Dempsey, Vaughn Nel, Laezaro Lopez, and Aaron Joubert all had multiple hits for KZNBA Promo Cardinals. Dempsey and Ackermann all had three hits to lead KZNBA Promo Cardinals.

Unfortunately, Super Kings had 17 hits on the way to victory. Marescia, Wassermann, Holloway, Adrian Davis, Wright, and King all managed multiple hits for Super Kings. Marescia went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Super Kings in hits. Super Kings tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Davis led the way with four.

Super Kings opened up scoring in the first inning. Wright scored a home-run on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs.

KZNBA Promo Cardinals put up four runs in the eighth inning, with its big bats led by Craig Dempsey, Fritz Ackermann, and Dale Coetzee. They all sent runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Super Kings scored five runs in the eighth inning. Their offense in the inning was led by Patrick Marescia, David Wassermann, Holloway, and Keith Singe, who each had RBIs in the inning.

Marescia was the winning pitcher for Super Kings. He surrendered 14 runs on 17 hits over eight innings, striking out four.

Coetzee took the loss for KZNBA Promo Cardinals. He went seven innings, allowing 16 runs on 15 hits and striking out five.

Super Kings hit two home runs. Wassermann had a homer in the fourth inning. Wright went for the long ball in the first inning.
