Toti Cycling’s 20% improve their Telkom 94.7 results

The Mambas have re-introduced their Sunday afternoon ride with the main objective being ‘chilled’ so the not-so-technical riders get to ride with the technical riders.

THE Wild Coast Sun MTB Challenge took place last Saturday, 18 November and Amanzimtoti Cycling Club is proud to announce so many of its members, namely Candice Parker-Dennison, Brian Powell, Dill Holm and Angelo Scarpa managed to get podium finishes with Wesley Parker-Dennison coming a close fourth in the senior age category.

45km: Second Brian Powell (sub vet) 1.47.47, third Dillon Holm (sub vet) 1.56.48, fourth Wesley Parker-Dennison (senior) 2.01.31, first Candice Parker-Dennison (senior) 2.07.31, third Angelo Scarpa (junior) 2.34.44, fifth Carlie Parker-Dennison (master) 3.16.23.

On Sunday, a few road cyclists went to compete, together with 19,000-odd other cyclists, in the Telkom 94.7 which takes place in Gauteng.

An interesting fact is that women make up only 20% of the total riders in this race. Another interesting fact – Penny Chapman, Karin Liebenberg and Carol Raasch, making up 20% of Amanzimtoti’s riders, had amazing rides as they improved their times by an impressive 45 minutes from the last time they rode the race.

Weather conditions were very hot and dry and some of the riders found the high altitude challenging.

Results: Willie Tesnaar 2.51, Ron Waldburger 3.18, Rienie Beneke 3.19, Fred Kingsley 3.25, John Shore 3.26, Penny Chapman 3.43, John van Landsberg 3.43, Corrie Steenkamp 3.48, Girtie Steenkamp 3.48, Clinton Evangelides 4.31, Karin Liebenberg 4.51, Craig Chapman 5.01, Carol Raasch 5.05, Tyron Castle 5.05.

Last Sunday saw a great, big, happy group meet at the Illovo Business Park and courtesy of Bruce Koll, learnt how to ride on soft sand. It happens every Sunday and everyone is welcome. Visit the Amanzimtoti Cycle Club Facebook page for details.

There’s a planned cleanup of the Amanzimtoti River this Saturday, 25 November and the club once again invites members and members of the community to roll up their sleeves and join in. Bags have been arranged, as have bamboo poles with hooks on one end, which will prove useful in assisting with the litter stuck in trees. For hygiene purposes, gloves are recommended. The clean-up will start at 8am sharp and run until 11am. Prizes are to be won, so be sure to make your way down to Amanzimtoti Sports Centre this Saturday.

Should more information be needed, contact the club’s chairman, Barry Walker on 083-459-8253.
