Winkle SLC gives its Springbok a special send-off

Kelly flies to Gauteng this coming Saturday with sister Chelsea and proud parents Delyse and Brad Fell for the capping ceremony, then its onto New Zealand with the team to complete against the best in the world.

WHAT a festive occasion it was last Friday night when nippers, juniors, seniors, committee and social members got together to celebrate the selection of Kelly Fell, Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club’s very own Springbok, to the South African Surf Lifesaving team as well as giving her a send-off party of note.

Kelly flies to Gauteng this Saturday with sister Chelsea and proud parents Delyse and Brad Fell for the capping ceremony, then it’s onto New Zealand with the team to compete against the best in the world.

The members and committee of Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club are extremely proud of the achievement, especially in the 90th year of the club’s existence and there is no doubt she will be a force to be reckoned with even though she is a junior competing against senior opposition. The Aussies and Kiwis are shaking in their boots.

Back to the party, thanks goes to DJ Craig Matthew whose music certainly brought out the best in the dancing of the Winkle men. Luke, Gary and Brad came out with dancing steps that the dancing experts have never seen and probably will never see again. The success of any party is always judged by the number of people who cannot get off the couch the following day and Saturday was no exception, with reports that many enjoyed their couches for most of the day.

On Sunday the nippers came out in force and a good training session was had, even though the sea was still dirty. Winkle SLC is also proud of nippers Slade and Robyn Forrester, Tannah McKinney, Chelsea Fell, Makayla Rebelo, Channing Bedford, Josh Worthmann, Reece Cheary, Matthew and Jason Maree who all passed their nipper exam at Scottburgh. Well done to all.

Nipper parents are to note the upcoming nipper champs which will be held on 3 December at Scottburgh. The nippers will be training hard over the next two weeks in preparation for these champs.

See you on the beach.
