Greenkeepers’ revenge golf to add some spice

As always AGC invites visitors to the area to come on down and play a round of golf on the beautiful course

ONCE again there is loads of information to share with Amanzimtoti Golf Club supporters, most important of all being the children’s Christmas party which will take place on Saturday, 9 December.

The fun kicks off from 3pm, and Father Christmas will be there to hand out presents to all the children at 4pm.

There will be sweets and cool drinks for the children, and while they are entertained by a jumping castle and fire engine loaded with foam, parents can sit in the sunshine and enjoy the atmosphere. Check out the club’s Facebook page for all the details and then phone Lea on 083-300-7521 to book.

Another event not to be missed is the annual greenkeepers revenge which is being played this Saturday, 25 November. Historically this has turned the course into quite a nightmare, with holes being played back to front and equipment strategically placed to make for difficult scoring, but this time around the focus will be on enjoyable golf with just enough spice to keep it challenging.

The tee box upgrades are really taking shape, the course is playing fantastically well, courtesy of the good rains and the new mowers, and to celebrate the improvements there will be a men’s captain versus chairman competition on 16 December.

Last Friday the sundowner was won by Steve Naude on 22 points, followed by Errol Woods and Janco Vogel both on 20.

The women played Lone Ranger on Saturday, a fourball alliance wherein the Lone Ranger role is rotated and the points scored come by way of the LR points plus the best points out of the other three players in the team. The winning team of Brenda Morgan, Sue Daniels, Charmain Stone and Delene Berry shot 90 points, while Gerda Heydenrych was nearest the pin on the 15th and Estelle Binnekade had yet another two club, this time on the 17th with a long downhill putt that never looked like it was missing the hole.

Fourball alliance with two scores to count all round was the order of play for the men. Terry Cousins, Brian Algate, Martin Tait and George Glaves took the honours with 97 points, followed one shot back by the team of Norbert Dupont, Peter Avellini, Nic Brits and Mr Mapser. Mark Bingham was closest to the pin on the seventh and Michael Igesund closest on the 17th.

As always AGC invites visitors to the area to play a round of golf on the beautiful course. Call the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to book a tee-off time and hire a cart if necessary, and the driving range is open most days for those wishing to hone their skills or try out this magical game.
