Just a reminder that the November alliance league game will be played on Saturday, 25 November - time to get your teams together.

UMKOMAAS Golf Club’s (UGC) Composite League team played their absolute final matches last Sunday and although they have already won the trophy for their league win this year, the games played last Sunday were purely social, the ‘last hurrah’ for 2017.

Play commenced at Royal Durban Golf Club where the teams from Selborne, Royal Durban and Umkomaas pitted their golfing skills once more and a great time was had by all.

Among all the golf clubs, there is a league just for the caddies. UGC is proud to report the final game of the caddies league, played once again at Royal Durban, was won convincingly by its caddy team. All the caddies from numerous golf clubs play in this league throughout the year, culminating in the final. Thanks to the organisers and sponsors for taking the time to put this tournament together for a relatively small bunch of good golfers. Well done to them all.

Wednesday’s individual stableford saw the club welcome Peter Bond, who will soon be joining as a member.

Well done to Strand Striker, Richard Andersson, who with 41 points, won the competition followed closely by Barrie Taylor in second spot with 40 points. Nelson Moonsamy took third place with his 37 points and Rob Mathias in fourth slot with 35 points.

On Saturday, 11 November, saw the delayed October alliance league played in rather gusty winds.

Club captain, Peter Toward welcomed former member, Michelle van der Merwe and overseas member Dietmar Schatz to the competition. Despite the wind, it was the ‘Mambas’ – Barrie Taylor, Jacques Kirstein, Rob Finlay and Denise Nell, dove-tailing well, to take the first prize with 89 points, followed by ‘instant team’, Three Guys and a Doll – Dudley Pringle, Dietmar Schatz, Piet Vermaak and Natalie Singer in second place, counting out the ‘Naidoos’ – Bruce Sutcliffe, Kuben Naidoo, Christopher Pillay and Sean Prendergast, both teams on 87 points. Both Jimmy Spear and Kuben Naidoo shared the jackpot kitty with their 11 points but the hidden birdie (third hole) will be carried over to next weekend. Jimmy Spear also had a two club on the fourth hole, as did Nelson Moonsamy on the ninth hole. Denise Nell took home the attendance draw. Well done to all the winners.

On Tuesday, 14 November, the club welcomed the Southern Natal Nomads to Umkomaas. Let’s just hope the wind had calmed down by Tuesday.

Next Saturday, 18 November, the competition is the fourball betterball with social golf on Sunday, 19 November. There is a group playing on Sunday morning, so carts will be limited to visitors. The Sunday ‘bash’ take place on Sunday, meeting under the lapa at 9.30am for 10am for registration. Anyone can join in for a game with these guys. There are cash prizes to be won.

The November alliance league game will be played on Saturday, 25 November – time to get your teams together.

There has been a re-structure of the Geriatrics – this group will now be called ‘The Early Birds’. If any golfer wishes to play on Tuesdays or Fridays only before 7.30am for only R75 per round of 18 holes, call Graham on 083-325-5707 to make arrangements.
