Fine feathers for fine birds at 21 Club’s AGM

Guest speaker, Lynnette Rowe, remembered for her contribution to education especially in Warner Beach, gave a brief update on the Umdoni Bird Park.

THE 21 Club’s October luncheon was definitely different.

Members were greeted with an ongoing slideshow of the beautiful photographs taken at the Spring luncheon photo shoot by talented young photographer, Aimee Hofmann.

Aimee is the daughter of 21 Club secretary, Sharon Hofmann. Her love for photography started in high school when she combined photography and drawing in her matric year as she worked hard, earning a distinction in visual arts. But that was just the tip of the iceberg, a taste of what was to become her life-long passion of capturing moments.

After matriculating and knowing her love for art, she decided to study photography. She was fascinated by the camera and how she could capture scenes in a moment as opposed to drawing for hours like she had in school.

Aimee graduated with an international BA degree, ensuring she had the papers to back up her passion.

The financials and the president’s report for 2017 were presented. The committee for 2018 remains unchanged with president Gwyn McLeod; secretary Sharon Hoffman; treasurer Jenny Perkins and co-ordinator Golda Smyly.

Lords and Legends was unanimously accepted as the venue for 2018.

In keeping with the theme ‘Birds of a feather flock together’, the tables were bedecked with colourful, cleverly crafted cardboard birds made by Isolde Behrens.

Chicken was served with tasty trimmings and a delicious pink pudding to honour breast cancer awareness month.

Members were challenged to a picture trivia competition which featured breast cancer survivors. Members at the winning table won pretty earrings after a closely contested finish.

Guest speaker, Lynnette Rowe who is remembered for her contribution to education especially in Warner Beach, gave a brief update on the Umdoni Bird Park. The good news is in spite of regrettable setbacks, this beautiful venue is still open for tea and coffee on Wednesdays from 9am to noon. All profits go to charity so nature and bird lovers are encouraged to visit.

The next 21 Club Christmas luncheon is on Wednesday, 29 November at noon for 12.30am at Lords and Legends conference room. Members are reminded to take an item from the grocery cupboard to contribute to the Lions feeding plan.

Confirmation of intention to attend or not must be received by the relevant committee members by Friday, 24 November. Guests, who must be invited by a member, can only be accommodated if there is space.

Music will be provided by Evan Perkins. Dress for a party.
