Amanzimtoti swimmer claims golds in stellar gala champs

The North Coast Dolphins swim team placed second in the girls relay.

Amanzimtoti swimmer, Monica Botha claimed seven gold medals and eight personal best (PB) times at the annual Seagulls Winter Short Course Championship.

The champs took place from 5 to 8 October at the Kings Park outdoor, short course 25-metre swimming pool.

This event is one of KZN’s premier championships and swimmers from all provinces convene to compete at this event.

This event, is in particular popular among the clubs training at higher altitude as swimmers log best times when they compete at sea level.

This did not deter 10-year-old Monica, who swam 11 individual events and one relay over the four days in the girls nine to 10-years-old and 14-years-old and under age groups.

Results:

Girls nine to 10-years-old: 50m breaststroke – 42.75 (gold), 50m freestyle – 31.14 (gold and PB), 50m butterfly – 35.92 (silver), 200m individual medley – 2.50.14 (gold and PB), 50m backstroke – 36.97 (gold and PB).

Girls 10-years-and-under: 100m freestyle – 1.09.21 (gold and PB), 100m breaststroke – 1.32.69 (gold and PB), 100m backstroke – 1.20.22 (gold and PB).

Girls 14-years-and-under: 400m freestyle – 5.24.80 (PB), 200 SCM freestyle – 2.30.56 (PB), 200 SCM backstroke – 2.59.91

The North Coast Dolphins swim team placed second in the girls 11-years-and-under 4 x 50m relay.
