Winkls SLC lifesavers make waves ahead of KZN team selection

Nipper training takes place every Sunday from 8.30am

WINKLESPRUIT Surf Lifesaving Club’s open day’s attendance was fantastic with so many new faces, especially the younger children whose incredible enthusiasm, capacity to have fun and their ability to not listen to instructions is such a joy to behold.

The beach was a hive of activity with three massive groups of children being put through their paces by the numerous nipper trainers. The weather played its part, so much fun was had and the vibe on the beach was incredible. A braai then took place in the afternoon where parents relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day.

Many thanks to all the club members who pitched in to make the day a success and to all the parents who took their children to the beach.

Nipper training takes place every Sunday from 8.30am so to those parents who could not make last Sunday are more than welcome to go down this Sunday morning.

On a more competitive note, the juniors and seniors attended the second lifesaving carnival in Durban and some great results were achieved. Current Springbok lifesaver Kelly Fell won the beach sprint; Gene Prato won the surf ski, third in the malibu board and fourth in surf swim; Jenna Nel second in surf ski; Gareth Hazell fourth in beach sprint; Deirdre Bentley fifth in long run and Tyler Main fifth in beach sprints. These results go towards selection of the KwaZulu-Natal Surf Lifesaving team.

See you on the beach.
