DOREEN Salmond, one of Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s top players, had a great week, winning the final of the women’s nominated pairs with partner Marion Crouch by retaining an early lead to beat Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow.

Doreen followed that up by taking the women’s senior singles title by defeating two more of the club’s top players – Marion Crouch in the semi-final, and then Barbara Beamson in the finals.

Doreen adds these titles to the others she has already won this year – women’s handicap singles and skip of the women’s drawn fours winning team.

In the final of the men’s drawn pairs John Marsh and Dave McMillan managed to retain their early lead and win the championship despite their opponents Vince Phaal and Mike Roberts making a strong comeback in the last six ends to finish only two shots down.

In men’s senior singles Phil Perkins beat Alec Stirzaker in round two, and went on to beat Colin Spence in the quarter-final.

The Victory KwikSpar monthly mixed 2-4-2 winners were Peter Shepard and Denise Bingham, with Ian and Marion Crouch in second place. First session winners were Tokkie de Kock and Paul Davies, while Marietjie and Mark van der Bergh won second session. Tony Cam won the raffle and five lucky couples won a free drink, thanks to the generosity of sponsor Alan Hawkins.

Julie Sutherland, Marietjie van der Berg, Nita Meumann and Amanda Ninow won the women’s mutton. Runners-up were Robyn Hutton, Nicky Stirzaker, Denise Bingham and Lesley Stephens-Viviers. Pam Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Jackie Holdrick and Dot Liebetrau won second session.

Winners of the men’s mutton were John Marsh, Peter Callaghan, Dallas Davis and Terry Morgan. Runners-up were Owen Turner, Trevor Zulch, Neil Wiggill and William Sithole, and second session went to Mike Groom, Andrew Walker, Mark van der Bergh and Mike Pitchers.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Pete Shepard. Bernie Bretherton was unfortunately not present to win the attendance draw, so the pot will be R300 next week. The ‘Damagers’ were not able to find the right key to open the box in the key draw, but did manage to get a bonus key, which was worth R100. The jackpot now goes to R3,030.
