Toti women croak as Frogs claim SCR league encounter

The men played bonus bogey on Saturday, with a good turnout of 64 players

ON Sunday, the Amanzimtoti Golf Club women ventured down to Umkomaas to compete in the SCR league against the Port Shepstone Frogs.

Going into the encounter the Frogs were second on the league, one point ahead of the Toti team.

After this match, they have now garnered another five points on Toti, courtesy of two losses and a draw from Toti. With the exception of the number one team, Jacqui and Gill, the girls gave a good accounting of themselves, with both Lass and Brenda, and Colleen and Estelle’s games going all the way to the 18th. A sad result for the Toti team, which leaves a huge mountain to conquer at their next league outing.

The national women’s golf day competition held last Wednesday was well supported, and for that the women thank firstly the club for allowing them to hijack the midweek comp, and then members and regular guests for turning out to support them. Thanks too for the donated prizes, and to everyone who supported their Kruger Park Lodge raffle. The lucky winner of the self-catering week away for six people at KPL was none other than member, Tracey de Klerk.

For the record, the prize-winners were the Van Rensburg brothers, Kalvin and Jason on 45 points, followed by Rob and Gill Symons who won the count out of all the 44 points scorers. In third place was the team of Matt Hamer and Wesley Dalton. Nearest the pins went to Matt, Rudi von Vlintel and Sean Roberts.

Staying with the women, on Saturday the format was IPS sevens, in which you double seven of your scores, discard seven and add on the remaining four. Top spot went to Lass Davis on 48 by way of a count-out from Estelle Binnekade. Estelle also made a two club on the 7th, while Jacqui Porrill laughed in the face of danger to chip in from the right hand bunker on the 17th for a stunning two club.

Friday’s nine-hole sundowner was a small affair, with Gerry Motley taking the honours on 21, counting our Lucas de Bruyn, and Mike Halse in third place on 19.

The men played bonus bogey on Saturday, with a good turnout of 64 players. Once again Gerry Motley took the win, partnered by Cecil Heydenrych, scoring 14. In second, third and fourth place, all on 12 were Jason Nel and Kendall Cormack, Mike Halse and Terry Cousins and Piet Carstens teamed with Sean Scorer.

Sadly the winners’ names for nearest the pins did not reflect on the results sheet.

This Saturday the men are playing betterball medal, while the women will be competing in the Ryder Cup, which is a draw pairs, six holes betterball, six holes singles and six holes hate-your-mate AKA multiplication.
