ETHEKWINI Municipality’s Sports and Recreation Department hosts the 2017 eThekwini Games on 22,23,28 and 30 July.
The Games, which aim to promote social cohesion and sports development in the city, will take place at different venues.
The Games is now at the stage where teams selected to represent zones will compete against each other for the ultimate prize of being named as eThekwini champions.
All eThekwini priority sports codes are covered including table tennis, netball, indigenous games, chess, swimming, cricket, athletics, rugby, basketball, tennis, volleyball and dance. The games are also an opportunity to scout for players to represent team eThekwini at the 2017 KwaZulu-Natal South African Local Government Association Games.
The Games begin at 8.30am. Entry is free to spectators.
Fixtures: Saturday, 22 July: Rugby (George Campbell ground), football (females) (Cato Manor Sports Ground), basketball (Hoy Park Sports Ground), Tennis (Hoy Park Sports Ground).Sunday, 23 July: Netball (Hoy Park Sports Ground), volleyball (Hoy Park Sports Ground), football (males) (Cato Manor Sports Ground).
Saturday and Sunday, 22 and 23 July: Cricket (Berea Rovers), athletics (Kings park Athletics Stadium).
Friday, 28 July: Dance (Umlazi W Hall – cinema).
Sunday, 30 July: Football (Princess Magogo Stadium), basketball (Princess Magogo Stadium), netball (Princess Magogo Stadium), volleyball (Princess Magogo Stadium), rugby (no four grounds, KwaMashu), table tennis (partially impaired at KwaMashu Sports Centre Gymnasium), Chess (KwaMashu Indoor Sports Centre), eThekwini Ndongeni Heritage 10/5km race (Hutchison Park, Amanzimtoti) (7.30am – 10.30am).
