Motley’s perfect fluke on the fourth proves costly

Rex Parsons picked up nearest the pin on the fourth, while Brian Amm did the same on the 15th.

A GROUP of Amanzimtoti Golf Club women golfers trekked down to San Lameer on Monday to take part in the senior’s competition.

After a long day on the course, the best they had to show for it was Brenda Morgan’s longest, straightest drive, and a third place showing overall for their fourball.

Either way, it was an experience as San Lameer is not for the feinthearted, and seeing that the SCR champs will be played there later this month, the course gave quite a notice of intent to prove as difficult as possible. Blitz fast greens and water hazards all over the place made it interesting to say the least.

On the home front, congratulations to Gerry Motley on achieving the perfect fluke on the fourth hole on Sunday, while playing in the PC’s day. No doubt that cost him a pretty penny as the PC boys are notoriously thirsty golfers.

Last Wednesday 58 players competed in the midweek IPS, with Nico Vogel beating Wayne Schonken to first place, both on 42, and Chris van Oudtshoorn in third place on 40.

Friday’s nine hole sundowner hosted 33 players, and Errol Woods delivered the goods with a fine 24 points, followed by Wik van Wyk on 23 and Nico Vogel on 22.

The women played the second round of the Walter Bruyn trophy on Saturday. Sue Boucher picked up where she left off last week, posting a superb 66 nett to win the competition with an outstanding 131 nett. Delene Berry had a two club.

Fourball betterball stableford was the order of the day for the men, with a tiny field of only 49 players. Fred Wallace and Dain Stentiford took the honours on 48 points, with Rex Parsons and Jeff Cronje in second place on 47. Third and fourth places were decided by way of a count out, with Max van Wyngaard and Brian Stephen winning the tie-breaker to pip Brian Stewart and Peter Avellini, both pairs on 46.

Rex Parsons picked up nearest the pin on the fourth, while Brian Amm did the same on the 15th.
