Toti golf club news

Next up on the social calendar is the Eric Clapton tribute being held on Friday, 14 July.

ONCE again Toti Golf Club hosted a very successful event, namely our local version of the Durban July, and some of the punters went home incredibly happy, with loot in their pockets and huge smiles on their faces. That too means that there was a spate of unsuccessful backers on the day, but hopefully the music provided later on went some way to making amends for their poor choices in horses.

Next up on the social calendar is the Eric Clapton tribute being held on Friday, 14 July. The evening kicks off at 7.30pm for 8pm, tickets cost R150 per person, and this includes a choice of either curry and rice or chicken a la king for dinner. Tickets are available from Gerry Motley on 082-452-5778.

Results from the week past: on Wednesday 43 contestants vied for the win in the midweek competition, with Pat Vickers taking the honours on 41, followed by Brian Stewart, Errol Woods and a visitor D. Van Wyk all on 40.

Twenty four players turned out to play in the Friday 9 hole Sundowner competition, and the top three placings were decided by a count out, with order of standing being Bobby Milne, Pepe Dass and Chris Coetzee all on 23 points.

The women played KZNLGA Medal and Putts on Saturday, and this was also the first round of the Walter Bruyn Trophy event. Winning the silver division was Charmain Stone on 71 nett, with Jacqui Porrill in second, while Sue Boucher annihilated the field to win the bronze division on a superb 65 nett, followed by Francis Hoole in second.

Least numbers of putts was shared by Jacqui and Francis, both only needing 30 smacks with the flat stick, and the two nearest the pins went to Charmain and Lass Davis on the 7th and 15th holes respectively.

Next week sees the second round of the Walter Bruyn being played, so please get your names in early so we can do the seeded draw in good time, and for those ladies not involved in the medal competition there will be IPS.

The men played their monthly mug on Saturday, with a good field of 60 players turning out to challenge for the glassware. Peter Tiearney won the A division on 70 nett with Sean Roberts two shots back. The B division winner was Martin Tait on 65 nett, followed by Gert Vosser on 69, and the C division was won by Jeffrey Cronje on 72 with Jimmy Corr right behind him on 73 nett.

Best gross on the day was Sean Roberts 75, Martin Tait 79 and Rob Stone 93 for the three divisions. Best nett overall was Martin Tait with his brilliant 65, then Gert Vosser and Cecil Heydenrych on 69. The two nearest the pins on the seventh and 17th were both won by Martin Rumbelow.

As always, Toti invites visitors to the area to come on down and play a round of golf on our beautiful course. Phone the pro shop on 031-9024144 to book a time. Carts are available for hire.
