AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club hosted another successful Pam Golding fours winter tournament on Thursday and Friday, where 22 teams of women from the Port Natal and Kingfisher areas enjoyed some friendly competition.

Congratulations to the winning team of Delysia Mitchley, Hilary Holmes, Hester Hankey and Saowanee Whitehouse (Apple), of AMBC. Runners-up were L De Rosner’s team from AMBC, and the team of Jean Cairns from Collegians came third.

The first Toti team home was in fourth place – Barbara Beamson, Jeanne Alexander, Denise Bingham and Natalie Botha. Session prize skips from first to fifth were Michelle from Wentworth, Gwen also from Wentworth, Barbara Beamson, Elaine Critchlow from Winklespruit and Louise Larkin with her team from Toti. In the raffle Jean Cairns won the Amarula donated by Heather Brown, and Joan van Rensburg won the whisky, which Pam Chalder-Royle donated.

Many thanks to the club’s generous sponsors Pam Golding, and especially Sue Blount for presenting the prizes. Also thanks to Doreen Salmond who arranged the donation of delicious milk tarts by Alan Hawkins of Victory Kwikspar; and to Charmaine of Honda Renault. Thanks to organisers Vera Broskie, Jacqui Fouche, to Alan McGregor for the scoring with valuable assistance by Julie Sutherland, and to all the women’s selectors, William the greenkeeper, Hannah and Colin behind the bar, Brunchies and the kitchen staff who kept players from going hungry, Bobby Stewart and Hettie van Niekerk for running the winter table so well, Marion Crouch for organising the pricing, and to Talla for all her hard work behind the scenes.

In the men’s league the A side beat Umhlanga A 5-2 away; the B side lost 0-7 to Westville B at home; the C side lost 2-5 to Collegians A at home; D side beat Stella Park C 3-2 at home; E side lost 0-5 to Umhlanga B away; and the F side lost 0-5 to Hillcrest F at home.

In the women’s league the A side won 5-0 over Durban A at the Bluff; B side lost 2-3 to Westville CC at Westville BC; and C side lost 0-5 to Stella Park A at Hillcrest. The last league game for men and women will be played on Saturday, 8 July. Try and finish off with wins for all the club’s sides. Good bowling to all.

Robyn Hutton, Nicky Stirzaker, Denise Bingham and Leonie Mills won the women’s mutton. Runners-up were Pam Chalder-Royle, Jenny Delport, Jackie Holdrick and Lesley Stephens-Viviers. Second session went to Lynn Joubert, Heather Brown, Nita Meumann and Lys McDonald. Winners of the men’s mutton were Ian Crouch, Pete Shepard, Mike Roberts and John Allers. Second were Duncan Wright, Owen Turner, Trevor Zulch and Neil Wiggill. John Marsh, Peter Callaghan, Ian Mills and Dallas Davis won the second session. Next month’s women’s mutton will be played on Sunday, 23 July, and men’s mutton will be on 30 July.

At TGIF Gerhard Hoffman was not present to pick up the attendance draw prize. Thus next week’s draw is worth R1,000 and numbers will be drawn until there is a winner. Robbie Roberts won the 100 board. Bobby Henderson was not lucky with the key draw, but he did win a R100 bonus. Next week’s key is worth R4,580.

Women’s nominated pairs will begin on Saturday, 1 July. Check the board to see if you are carded. On Sunday the final of the women’s drawn fours will take place. The draw is on the board for women’s senior singles. Members are asked to arrange to play games as soon as possible and organise their markers. Men’s games are also carded for 1 and 2 July, so check the board.

Members were saddened to hear of the death of Alex Clark, who was a long term bowler at the club, and also served on the committee working hard for several years. Condolences go to his family and friends. Birthday wishes are sent this week to Sue Welch, Terry Morgan, Denis Couzens and Brian Crause. Good health is wished to all.
