Gene makes waves with paddle race win

Rumour has it that girlfriend Sarah Land was smiling from ear to ear at the finish being so proud of her man’s achievement.

WINKLESPRUIT Surf Lifesaving Club is extremely proud of Gene “The Machine” Prato who won last weekend’s Scottburgh to Brighton Surf Ski Paddle race for the second year in a row.

This race which is one of the oldest in South Africa covers a distance of 46km of tough sea paddling.

Rumour has it that girlfriend Sarah Land was smiling from ear to ear at the finish being so proud of her man’s achievement.

Talking about old – Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club celebrates its 90th year this year with a few events planned to celebrate this achievement. Past and current members are encouraged to diarise Saturday, 12 August when the first event, a formal dinner will be held. The organising committee is hard at work on this event and tickets will be on sale shortly.

The club also congratulated the eight members who qualified for the junior lifeguard and lifeguard awards two weeks ago.

The club’s AGM will be held this coming Sunday, 25 June at 1.30pm with a club photo being taken afterwards. It is compulsory for all members to attend and select a new committee for the year going forward.
