ABC’s Jeanne through to Port Natal open masters bowls

Birthday wishes go to Ken Leech, Greg McLeod, Maureen Griffin and Ken Baker this week

By Jack E Toucher

AS host venue for the Port Natal qualifying masters, it was a busy weekend at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC).

The club congratulates Jeanne Alexander who was the only club member to qualify to play in the upcoming PN women’s open masters. It was hard lines for Greg McLeod however, who just missed qualifying for the men’s open masters but came third in his section.

Port Natal praised the club for the efficient running of the competition, especially the outstanding work of the technical officials for the day Doug Joubert, Vera Broskie and Al McGregor. Thanks also go to members who assisted with marking and to the greenkeepers for the excellent greens.

Vince Marriott, Dennis Hughes and Al McGregor were the men’s trips winners, with Glen Scorgie, Peter Callaghan and Barry Bush second. Dallas Davis, Eric Klopper and Terry Morgan took home second session.

The PN Pro 10 will take place on Sunday, 11 June with the final on Sunday, 18 June at ABC which sponsors the event. Good bowling to all members who are competing in this new format.

Entries for the women’s winter tournament, the women’s nominated pairs and women’s senior singles will close on Thursday, 15 June, so if you are still thinking of entering make sure you do it this week.

Robyn Hutton won the 100 Board at TGIF. Lofty van Tonder was not present to collect the attendance draw, so it goes up to R900 next week. Peter Callaghan tried hard to find the right key to open the box in the key game, but sadly couldn’t get it, so that prize rises to R3,480 next time.

The women’s trips is cancelled for 21 June due to winter tournament on 22 and 23 June. Good bowling to all ABC teams playing in the Pro 10 on Sundays, 11 and 18 June – the latter is the finals which will be played at ABC.

Birthday wishes go to Ken Leech, Greg McLeod, Maureen Griffin and Ken Baker this week, and get well wishes to all who are sick.
