Golfers called on to support Cancer Challenge at Toti GC

A reminder that the social evening planned for the 26 May is drawing closer.

THE Sanlam Cancer Challenge is coming to Amanzimtoti Golf Club on Saturday, 20 May, and all members and visitors wishing to play in the event are urged to contact the pro shop to organise a tee-off time.

The individual points stableford will be played in three divisions, namely 0-9, 10-18 and 19-30 maximum handicap permitted for the men, and 0-16, 17-24 and 25-36 for the women.

Applicable green fees apply and the competition fee is R75 per player. Tee-off times are available from 6.30am to 8am for the morning field, and 11.30am to 12.30am for the afternoon field.

This year the club has decided that no other club competitions will take place on Saturday, as it needs to stand behind the cancer initiative. This terrible scourge afflicts too many people these days, and everyone has been touched by this dreadful disease. Go down and show your support for this worthy cause by playing in the fundraising golf day.

On Sunday the women make their first foray into the 2017 league season with a home match against a combined Umdoni and Selborne team. The pairings are Jacqui Porrill and Gill Symons, Charmain Stone and Colleen Smit, Liz Donald and Lass Davis. Good luck to all the players, and let’s hope the season kicks off on a high note.

Only two men’s sides will play this Sunday, with the A team playing away against Victoria A, and the Allerton boys squaring up against Durban Golf Club on their home turf. The A team had a good showing last time out when they beat Zululand, so hopefully the good results will continue.

The rainfall is doing wonders for the course, and has also enabled club members to spend time with their families on the weekend due to no golf being played. Only one club competition was completed during the week, being the Wednesday IPS where 29 players competed. Top honours went to Janco Vogel on 42 points, followed by Wik van Wyk on 41, counting out H Odendaal.

A reminder that the social evening planned for 26 May is drawing closer. The entertainment starts at 6.30pm, with music provided by the talented Harley Blues group. Braai fires and rolls and salads will be laid on. Take your own meat, and tickets at R50 per person are available from Dave Finch on 082-909-7471 or Lea Finch on 083-300-7521.

As always, Toti welcomes all visitors to play a round of golf on its superb course. Take the family along to enjoy the catering and outside facilities, and relax while your children entertain themselves on the playground equipment. The driving range is open most days, so take the opportunity to hone your skills. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-4144 to book a tee-off time or for more information.
