Skills clinic to fine-tune MTB riders’ ability

The Mambas had the Holla Sugar Rush Classic race this past weekend.

AMANZIMTOTI Cycle Club once again hosts a skills clinic at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre on Sunday, 9 April from 2pm.

Presenter, Gavin Harvey will cover MTB skills not only aimed at beginners, but for those riders who have been riding for some time and want to learn to be more confident on the trails.

Whether you participate in technical races or just MTB trail rides for fun, he’ll provide you with training and skills at any level.

Sessions are adapted to the participants with the aim to ensure that everyone rides away with at least one useful, new skill. It will start off with a chat to run through some basic bike anatomy and theory around general bike handling, basic suspension and bike setup, cornering, braking, body position, jumps, drops, rock gardens and overall confidence improvement on the trail. After the theory, you can go out on the trail to put the theory into practise. The manicured 6km route around Hutchison Park is ideal for this.

The skills clinic is open to anyone and everyone and is free of charge on 9 April at 2pm. Go along and share in the enjoyment of mountain biking. For more information, contact Barry Walker on 083-459-8253.

The Mambas had the Holla Sugar Rush Classic race this past weekend. This race guarantees open and single trail, jeep track, bridge crossings, undulating hills and plenty more. The club’s very own Brennan Anderson had an excellent ride, coming in third in his age category and sixth overall. A mere 12 seconds behind him came Hendrik Bester who continues to shine, coming first in his age category and ninth overall. It was good to see Casey Victor’s name for the 19km race.

Girtie Steenkamp is riding so well. She completed the Lake Umuzi three-in-one race that also took place last weekend in Secunda. The event is split into three distances: 68km, 33km and a race lap of 7km. Girtie did all three and was first in her age category.
