WELL done to the Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) teams of Greg McLeod, Doug Joubert and Mike Pitchers, as well as Ian Crouch, Ian Mills and Barry Bush, who each have gone through to round four of the Port Natal men’s trips after winning their sections on Sunday.

This will take place at Parkhill Bowling Club on Saturday, 1 April from 12.30pm. Also congratulations on the women’s side. Not to be outdone by their husbands are Lynn Joubert, Michelle Pitchers and Leonie Mills who will play the fourth round at Northlands, also on the afternoon of 1 April.

The semi-finals of the Port Natal singles were played in tough weather conditions on Saturday at Toti Bowling Club. Despite wind and intermittent rain, there were some great games to watch.

Going through to the finals in the men’s opens are Wayne Roberts of Stella Park and Chris Whitlock of Lahee Park. The men’s senior finalists will be Mo Morrison of Parkhill and Charlie Tree of Firwood. Stella Park BC is guaranteed a champion in the women’s open singles as the two finalists are Louise Larkin and Glenda Matthews from that club. In the women’s senior singles final are Toti BC’s own Doreen Salmond and Glyn Lagesse of Lahee Park. As the weather deteriorated before the finals were to take place, they have been postponed to Saturday, 1 April at 9am at Toti.

Those who watched these teams from other clubs will have noticed the wealth of young bowling talent about. The club is on a drive to recruit younger members. In light of this Barflies returns on Sunday morning, 2 April. Invite your children and grandchildren and young friends to go along and give bowls a try. Cost is R20 and free to 18 years and younger. Donations of raffle prizes will be gratefully accepted. Anyone who has spare or unwanted bowls, the club would be grateful for these for this project, even on a loan basis. Participants are asked to wear flat, smooth-soled shoes. Bowls will be available.

One women’s handicap game was played this week. After a close match throughout, Maggie Robertson pulled away at the end to beat Leonie Mills after 19 ends.

Well done to those who played in the first B20 competition on Wednesday which turned out to be a fun-filled evening. Taking the honours was the team of Julie and Shawn Sutherland and Amanda Ninow. The same teams will play this week, however if you have missed out and would like to have a go, there will be lists up for 5 and 12 April. If there are insufficient new players, the current sides will divide with the top half playing on 5 April and the bottom half on 12 April against new players.

At TGIF Jacqui Birch won the 100 board. Alan Finlay was not present for the attendance draw. Next week’s draw is worth R450. Brian Crause sadly chose the wrong key so the key draw goes up next week to R9,220.

More players are needed for the Easter fives tournament which is a fun competition on 15 and 16 April. There are great prizes to be won. Check the list on the board.

Many happy returns are sent this week to Mike Pitchers, Bill Riley, Clive Frank and Eric Klopper. Get well soon to all who are sick, with a special wish to Jane Coetzee, hope you are feeling better.
