Legends make their mark on Phoenix soccer tourney

Exciting times await the popular outfit as they make their debut in the highly competitive KZN Golden Oldies over 50 league.

Isipingo Soccer Legends was crowned team of the tournament in the KZN over 50 tournament played in Phoenix at the weekend.

On the field the legends excelled beyond expectations in their debut year, losing 1-0 to Umlazi, beating Newcastle 3-1 and losing 3-0 to Chatsworth in the semi-finals.

“The all-round performance displayed at the tournament augurs well for the future and management anxiously await the start of the season,” said Isipingo Soccer Legends assistant coach, Bull Govender.

Exciting times await the popular outfit as they make their debut in the highly competitive KZN Golden Oldies over 50 league, which boasts teams from Umlazi, Inanda, KwaMashu, Durban Central, Reservior Hills, Phoenix and Chatsworth.

Players, officals and supporters are upbeat about the challenges that lie ahead. Players are training hard under coaches Ayoub Adam and Tariq Khan,” said Govender.

Judging by the success enjoyed by Isipingo Soccer Legends in years gone by, the team is oozing with confidence and should hold their own in a league that consists of mainly ex-professionals.

Players who featured in teams like Colleens, Malabar, Protea Power and Lincoln City are unfazed by the hype and are confident of taking the league by storm with their enterprising style of play.

Ably led by captain Sega Moonsamy, the team hopes to make a statement with some impressive performances in their first year.

CEO Ronnie Vengan, together with Mark Gounder, manager Norman Naicker and assistant Bull Govender are cock-a-hoop with confidence and hope supporters get behind the team in their quest for honours.

Management thank Ganny Govender for his generous support over the years.
