AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club’s veranda was crowded on Saturday and Sunday, when it sponsored the Port Natal men’s open singles.

Toti’s men acquitted themselves well on Saturday at various clubs around the district, but in the face of strong competition sadly were all eliminated.

Despite this, the club was extremely busy with eager spectators watching the last 16 players do battle on Sunday. It was encouraging for the game of bowls to see so many young up and coming players.

Congratulations to Wade Marshall of Hilary, Wayne Roberts and Dion Audie of Stella Park, and Chris Whitlock of Lahee Park who are through to the semi-finals. The semis and final will be played at ABC on Saturday, 25 March. This promises to be an exciting day for the spectators.

Thanks to Doug Joubert who was tournament official, and to Mike Groom for his assistance; to the markers who volunteered their time and did a sterling job; to the greenkeepers who made sure the greens were in top condition after the recent rains; and to the bar and kitchen staff.

The women’s Port Natal singles, also sponsored by ABC, get underway on Saturday, 4 March. Good bowling to ABC’s four players in the seniors and the six taking part in the open singles. These finals will also take place at the club on 25 March.

At TGIF the 100 board was won by Neville Roscoe. Betty Sawyer’s name was drawn in the attendance draw, but sadly she was not there to claim the prize, thus next week it will go up to R250. Heather Brown unfortunately chose the wrong key for Nicky Stirzaker, so Friday’s key will be worth R7,020.

Check the board to see upcoming games and competitions. The list for men’s novices bowls closes on Friday, 3 March; and the list for women’s drawn pairs on Saturday, 4 March.

The only member celebrating a birthday this week is Leonie Mills, so ABC wishes her a very special day. And get well wishes go to all who may be sick at the moment.
