Golf club bids farewell to club dog

This Sunday, Toti’s A men’s league team take on Zululand at home, while the B side will do battle against Bluff on home ground.

SAD news for all members and visitors to Amanzimtoti Golf Club is that Minky, the club dog, lost the battle against ill health and old age, and crossed her rainbow bridge last Thursday.

She was a resident at the club for many years, and will definitely be missed.

That having been said, Sandy the bunker dog has moved in with aplomb and loves her new home.

This Saturday sees the inaugural playing of the King of the Coast fundraising event. If you aren’t already in a team competing on the day, go on down and enjoy supporting the various sides.

Last Wednesday the individual points stableford competition was called off to heavy rain, and on Friday, with conditions not being too great, only 20 players turned out to compete in the nine hole sundowner. Janco Vogel walked off with the meat after scoring 21 points off his six handicap, which is very good going, and in second place was Wikus van Wyk on 19.

The women played a threeball alliance on Saturday which was won by Wladzia Olivier, Adri Slabbert and Sue Conlan by way of a count out from Francis Hoole, Lass Davis and Charmain Stone. Both teams scored 78 points. Charmain also picked up nearest the pin.

For the men, 4BBB medal was the format and Janco Vogel and Wik van Wyk teamed up to win on a score of 60. In second, third and fourth places, all on 63, were Nick Brits and Rob Kruger, Kalvin van Rensburg and Mike Igesund, and Rob Stone and Willie Boucher. Two nearest the pins were won by Tommy McNaughton on the seventh and Peter Tiearney on the 17th.

The senior men’s league team played its third fixture of the year at Bluff National Park on Monday, and after an extremely close match with the four top teams separated by a mere two points, Bluff retained their lead in the league log. Toti managed to scrape home as overall winners by a single point from Durban CC, and the top scorer for the round was Bluff captain Max Magnussen on 39.

Round four of the league takes place at Royal Durban on 20 March.

This Sunday, Toti’s A men’s league team take on Zululand at home, while the B side will do battle against Bluff on home ground. The Allerton team will compete against MECC at Mount Edgecombe. It would be great to see a lot of support for AGC’s team at home, albeit that both of the other teams are away.

As usual, the club offers an invitation to all visitors to go down, enjoy a game of golf on its beautiful course, and take advantage the magnificent facilities. Phone the pro shop on 031-902-1166 to book a time.
