Revamped tennis courts officially re-open

Despite the excessive heat, 26 players took to the courts to vie for the Sandra Cup trophy.

WHAT a fantastic afternoon at Amanzimtoti Tennis Club last Saturday.

The club was privileged to have Craig Chamier, chairman of Amanzimtoti Sports Centre and Gary Brown, president of Ethekweni Tennis Association present.

Craig and Gary cut the ribbons and officially opened the refurbished courts. Many thanks to both of them. Gary also participated in the tournament.

Despite the excessive heat, 26 players took to the courts to vie for the Sandra Cup trophy. Section winners were Richard and Vanessa and Gabriel and Hans who then played under lights for the coveted trophy. Congratulations to Richard and Vanessa who proved too good to beat.

Gary kindly presented the prizes, and Hans presented the trophy. A huge thank you to the club chairman Alan and his committee for their hard work, ensuring everything ran smoothly. Special thanks to Laurence who kept the players on their toes for each round.

The club’s boerie rolls, and the bring and braai which is always popular, was enjoyed by all. Thank you to all who provided snacks, salads and dessert.

Social tennis continues on club days until preparations begin for the 2017 league fixtures due to begin in mid-April for the midweek women and mid-May for mixed doubles which are played on Saturday afternoons.

The club’s development clinic for primary school children has commenced for the first school term. If your child shows an interest in learning to play tennis, take them down to the courts on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am. Madi and Gabriel are on hand to show the children how it’s done. Tennis racquets are available for use and children should ideally wear tennis-type shoes.
