Busy new year ahead for ABC

AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club (ABC) wishes all its members a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

The club’s hardworking committee is wished a successful year at the helm of the club.

They are doing a sterling job. The two scribes thank all concerned for their help in getting the news into this paper. Members are to note that they thry their best to be up-to-date with all the news regarding this wonderful club. If any members wish anything in particular to be added to the weekly article, there is a news book behind the bar to which anyone can add their news, and the scribes will endeavour to give everyone a voice.

In the first round of the men’s handicap singles, Greg McLeod beat Greg Veldtman in 18 ends. The semi-finals of the women’s drawn fours are carded for Saturday, 7 January at 1.30pm, as well as the last men’s nominated trips semi on the same day. On the morning of Sunday, 8 January, there is also a semi-final of women’s open singles. A demonstration of B20 bowls will take place at the club at 3pm on Friday, 6 January. This is a fun format which will test and hopefully improve your bowling skills, and will be open to bowlers and non-bowlers alike. The first TGIF of 2017 resumes after this and the attendance draw will be up to R300. The key draw will be worth R3,020. The Christmas hamper draw will also take place that night.

Lists are on the board for the Port Natal open and senior singles for both men and women. Cut-off date for men is 27 January, and the first round will be played on 25 February. The women’s cut-off date is 3 February, and first round is 4 March. There is still room for more teams in the Hypersure potato trips competition starting on 13 January. The format is two bowl trips, and there are great prizes to be won.

Note there will be a PN one day markers’ course on Saturday, 14 January at Westville CC at a cost of R80. There will also be a PN level one umpires course at Stella Park on Saturday and Sunday, 28 and 29 January at a cost of R100. Lists are on the board.

The lists for the women’s handicap singles and the drawn trips are closing on Friday, 6 January. There will be practise sessions for the women on Wednesday afternoons, where all are welcome. Sad news reached the club over the holidays that past member Joyce Boyter had died. Joyce and her late husband Norman bowled at ABC as well as at Winklespruit Bowling Club. Condolences are sent to her friends and family.

Birthday greetings go this week to Mike Roberts, Eileen Ambler, Ken Crowe, Dot Roering, Kokkie de Kock, Jeff van Belkum and Robyn Hutton.
