Skaters glide to metro champs success

The club will put on a Christmas show at Galleria Ice Rink on Friday and Saturday, 2 and 3 December.

Amanzimtoti skaters, as part of the KZN team, competed in the eThekweni Metro Championships at Durban Ice Rink on the weekend of 19 and 20 November.

“The competition was an outright success, particularly for our South Coast skaters,” said coach, Wendy Van Der Hammen.

Nadia Bergh won gold in the sparrow girls division; Dané De Jongh won gold in the juvenile girls division; Kaden McKenzie won gold in the juvenile boys division; Jordyn Huntington of Umkomaas won gold in the bronze hawks division; Aquilla Fernandez won silver in the bronze hawks division; Cassidy Collins won gold in the highly competitive silver falcons club division; Paige Cook won silver in the silver falcons division; Jolandri Cilliers won gold with a polished performance to win the Golden Eagles women’s division; Chantelle van Niekerk won silver in the Golden Eagles women’s division; Meagan Tancrel won silver in the pre-novice girls division; and Michaela Brown won silver in the junior women’s division.

“Apart from our solo achievements, our synchronised skating team made up of Toti Seals Club skaters stole the show,” said Wendy.

This team of 14 girls was put together by Wendy just six weeks before the competition and the team delivered, easily taking gold and giving a memorable performance.

Toti Seals Club will put on a Christmas show – a musical variety on ice at Galleria Ice Rink on Friday and Saturday, 2 and 3 December.

There are two performances – one on the Friday evening from 5.30pm to 7pm, and one the following morning from 7am to 8.30am.

Entrance is free but donations are welcome.

“All our top Toti skaters will feature in the show, with our synchronised team making two appearances,” said Wendy.

“The show offers a variety of skating, ranging from Bollywood dancing, the Step Up movies, artistic ribbon dances, the Mamma Mia movie, The Rocky Horror Show, comedy on ice, a skating flautist and much more. It’s a show not to be missed and comprises all local talent.

It is the end of a tough year of competitions and all-in-all, Toti skaters have outdone themselves, going from strength to strength with each competition.

I definitely have a team to be proud of.”
