Toti athletes swarm Soweto Marathon

Well done to all the runners who took part in the Soweto Marathon this past weekend.

THE past weekend saw the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club walkers’ 21km club champs take place at Kings Park Athletic Stadium.

Thanks to all the walkers who came on a cold and rainy morning, somewhat pleasant for running and walking on a flat and double lap race.

Congratulations to the walkers who took podium positions.

42km: Nkosinathi Khathi 3.25, Robert Gcaba 3.35, Mnotho Mpungose 3.37, Xolani Nocanda 3.46, Isaac Khoza 4.18, Steven Msomi 4.22, Phillip Radebe 4.30, Thembisa Ndlovu 4.31, Thobekile Zama 5:09, Musawenkosi Ndlovu 5:15, Nonhlanhla Dlamini (no time).

10km: Kay Baralam 1.30.

21km walk: D van der Merwe 2.35 (second male and second overall), I Bohmer 2.37 (first woman and third overall), S van der Merwe 2.57 (third woman and sixth overall) A Kretzmann 2.57 (fourth woman and seventh overall), B Wagner 3.23, J Williams 3.23, B Bamber 3.23.

10km run: Thabani Ngcobo (fourth overall no time) B Stange, A Wasserman, C Webber 1.10, S Kruger 1.10, M Diamond 1.10, C von Solms 1.10, H Dercksen 1.26.

21km run: C Stange 1.30, S Finn 1.32, W Gibson, J Momberg 1.59, M Coetzee 1.59, W Wasserman 2.38, T Poultney 3.11. Well done to all those who took part.

The club AGM will take place on Wednesday, 30 November at 7pm after time trial at Lords and Legends.

The annual prize-giving will take place on Saturday, 3 December at the clubhouse at 9.30am for 10am. Breakfast will be served before.

Upcoming races:

11 November – Amanzimtoti trail run (over 4km or 8km) takes place on the cricket oval at Lords and Legends starting at 6pm. Headlamps and torches are compulsory. Join in the fun for the whole family. Enter online or late entries will be taken on the day from 4.30pm. Go to www.roag.co.za or www.facebook.com/Amanzimtotisportscentre. Pre-entries close on 10 November. Pre-paid entry for adults costs R80 in the 8km and R40 for the 4km; U16 is R60 in the 8km and R30 for 4km. Race day entries cost R20 more.

13 November – Bluff Vets 42.2km run, starts at 5.30am and 21.1km run and 15km walk starts at 6am.

20 November – Mineshaft Queensburgh Harriers 15km run/walk starts at 6am.

Time trial results: 4km E Luiz 19.47, J Duvenhage 20.22, T Zama 22.43, S Msomi 22.43, N Mbele 25.40, A Myeza 30.42.

8km: E Grobler 38.26, A Payne 46.30, R Sayer 46.30, N Saville 46.30.

4km walk: D van der Merwe 38.36 , R Stewart 38.40, S van der Merwe 38.50, S Coulter 38.50, J Williams 38.50.

Note that reflective belts are mandatory for time trials.

Weekly time trials are on Wednesday with walkers starting at 5.30pm and runners at 6pm (both over 4km or 8km). Visitors are welcome and should meet at the clubhouse at Hutchison Park. On Saturdays there is an 11km run and walk from the clubhouse at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners. Refreshments are served afterwards.
