CONGRATULATIONS to Greg McLeod and Doug Joubert who were victors in the men’s nominated pairs final at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.

Well done to Les Brown and Mark Brodie who were runners-up in a closely fought match, with the final score being 17-15.

In the first round of the men’s drawn fours, Vince Phaal, Barry Bush, Steve Evenwel and Paul Davies beat Peter Callaghan, Andrew Pearce, William Sithole and Ian McDonald; Ian Crouch, Mike Groom, Ken Leech and Kokkie de Kock overcame Doug Joubert, Adie Fuller, Jeff van Belkum and Wessie van der Westhuizen; John Hewgill, Alan McGregor, Keith Berry and Martin Birch defeated Coy Schrauwen, Neville Roscoe, Trevor Zulch and Ben Venter; Ian Mills, Rob Troughton, Terry Morgan and Leon van Rensburg beat Glen Scorgie, Les Brown, George Glaves and Keith West; Greg McLeod, Mike Roberts, Owen Turner and Shawn Sutherland beat Tony Cam, Alf Bingham, Brian Crause and Gary Wise; Gerald Chalder-Royle, Alec Stirzaker, Mike Pitchers and Andy Jones defeated Linden Cooper, Dallas Davies, Barry Buckland and Greg Veldtman; and Lofty van Tonder, Bobby Henderson, Steve Woor and Dean Cooper beat Ian Shearer, Andy Walker, Dave McMillan and Neil Wiggill.

In the second round, Gerald Chalder-Royle and team beat Clive Frank, Boet Els, Martin Young and Peter Snyman; and the following skips and teams also won second round games, Ian Mills against Greg McLeod; Ian Crouch over Vince Phaal; and Lofty van Tonder against John Hewgill.

There was a wonderful turnout of brightly dressed women on the morning of the annual Cherry Bell competition. Luckily the weather stayed dry so that 15 ends of fun bowls could be played. Well done to winners Tokkie de Kock, Nicky Stirzaker and Lesley Stephens-Viviers. Runners-up were Julie Sutherland, Adrienne Robbins and Debbie Geuffroy, and Elsie Walker, Elmarie Young and Carole Glaves came third. The bingo was won by Heather Cooper, Leonie Mills and Maureen Griffin who got to exactly 10 shots after only two ends. All the women dressed up so attractively in red, white and green, but the best dressed woman judged by Jane Coetzee was Nita Meumann who had obviously gone to a great effort with her costume. Big thanks goes to Robyn Hutton who organised a great day with fun and games after the bowls, to Alf and Denise Bingham for the music on and off the greens, to Vera and Marion for doing the cards and scoring, to all who donated champagne and orange juice, to kitchen and bar staff and to Talla and Lesley as always. Thanks to Lords and Legends for prizes.

At TGIF Edna John’s number was drawn in the attendance draw, but she was not at the club so next week’s draw will be worth R700. Toni Roberts won the R100 board. Crecia Allers did not have luck when she picked her key for the draw. The key draw on Friday, 4 November is worth R10,000 and it’s a must-win draw. Keys will be drawn until there is a winner. Note the monthly quiz will be on 9 November so as not to coincide with the Brad Cox night bowls on 16 November. This will be the last quiz of 2016.

Birthday boys this week are Brad Cox, Boet Els and Chris Viljoen, greetings to them. Good health is wished to all members.
