AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club took the chance to have a quiet week in the aftermath of all the activity around, completing competitions in time for the AGM and prize-giving.

However that respite has been short-lived, as preparations have already begun for the new season.

The entry lists for the women’s open singles, men’s drawn trips and men’s and women’s drawn fours are now out. Also the men’s selectors have invited players in the men’s league to a meeting on Saturday, 12 November to air their views in preparation for league.

Twelve ABC teams entered the PN fours last Sunday, and despite the 45 knot wind, two made it through the first stage. They were Barbara Beamson, Jeanne Alexander, Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers; and Elmarie Young, Linda McGregor Dot Liebetrau and Maureen Griffin. Well done to all – it was not easy in those conditions and good luck for the next round on Sunday, 9 October.

The club’s four novices entered in the PN men’s novice pairs are doing well after the first round. Andy Jones and Steve Liebetrau got an eight, which helped them to a win in their first game, and had a bye for their second and Steve Woor and Paul Davies won both of their games. Congratulations guys.

Members are responding well to the urgent appeal by Operation Bobbi Bear for food and hygiene items, and the box is filling up rapidly. If you haven’t already donated something, drop an item off when you next visit the club as the help is desperately needed for this service which is so valuable.

Newspapers are also being collected for the SPCA, so take those along too, so that the club can do its bit to give back to the community it is sited in. Don’t forget that Saturday, 29 October is Cherry Bell day, when the women dress up and have fun. So get your name in early.

At TGIF Tokkie de Kock’s number came out in the attendance draw but unfortunately she was not present so the pot rises to R500 next week. Maggie Robertson won the 100 board, and despite Jeanne Alexander’s best efforts, she was not able to open the box in the key game. That pot will be R7,500 next time.

Birthday greetings go to Coy Schrauwen, Dudley Blount, Colin Coetzee, Basil Day (the club’s oldest playing member), Tony Cam, William Sithole, Owen Turner and Margi Botha, and get well wishes to all who are sick.
