AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club has been catching up with the backlog of competitions after the recent rains and flooding, and everything is now on course in time to finish for the AGM on Saturday, 24 September.

Those who will not be able to attend the AGM, are to speak to Jackie Holdrick to arrange a postal vote.

Congratulations to Ian Crouch who became the senior singles champion by beating Greg McLeod in the final. Ian also prevailed in the final of the men’s drawn pairs with Phil Perkins. Well done to runners-up Doug Joubert and Martin Birch. Another final saw Gustav Somers and Tokkie de Kock defeat Ian and Leonie Mills to become mixed pairs champions.

In the men’s nominated pairs, John Hewgill and Mike Roberts defeated Ian Crouch and Ian Mills. In the women’s handicap singles, Talla Stephens-Viviers beat Leonie Mills and then Linda McGregor; Tokkie de Kock defeated Karen Shepherd; Jeanne Alexander beat Robyn Hutton and then Michelle Pitchers by one shot to go through to the final. In the other semi, Tokkie de Kock beat Talla Stephens-Viviers in a close game, and will meet Jeanne in the final. Good luck to both players.

In the women’s nominated pairs, Doreen Salmond and Jean Snyman overcame Sue Welch and Jeanette Els to go through to the final; Nita Meumann and Karen Shepherd beat Tokkie de Kock and Leigh Callaghan; then Nita and Karen prevailed in the semi against Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers. Good bowling to all four women in the final.

In the monthly women’s 2-4-2, winners were Amanda Ninow and Linda McGregor. Runners-up were Sue Welch and Jeanette Els; and Yvonne Wright and Gaynor Snyman won the second session. Doreen Salmond won the 100 board.

In the mixed scroungers, Barry Buckland was the winner with Jackie Holdrick second and Heather Brown third. Plate A was won by Steve Woor and plate B by Dave Kemp. At TGIF Gladys Hughes won the 100 board; Das Veldsman’s name came up in the 100 board, but as he wasn’t at the club, next week’s draw is worth R350. Leonie Mills picked the key this week, but sadly no luck for her. Next week’s lucky key is worth R5,730.

The Picardy Bazooka morning was well attended by bowlers and non-bowlers alike. Peter Labuschagne and his team were the winners, with skips Ian Shearer and Pam Chalder-Royle and their teams coming second and third. The sportsman’s prize went to the team of Herbert Hofmann, and thanks to the generosity of all the sponsors, many more prizes were won. Yvonne Wright won the hamper in the raffle, and Denny Denysschen won the Chivas Regal. Duncan Wright won the whisky on the 100 board.

Happy birthday wishes this week to Herman van Zyl, Aletta Evert, Heather Cooper and Jeanette Els. Get well wishes go to those who are sick. Remember the next quiz night is on Wednesday, 21 September. Finally, good bowling to all players in the next round of the Port Natal pairs.
