IN the first round of the Port Natal pairs, the following Amanzimtoti Bowling Club teams won their sections, and are through to the next round:

Barbara Beamson and Jeanne Alexander; Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers; Doreen Salmond and Adrienne Robbins; Lynn Joubert and Michelle Pitchers; Robyn Hutton and Heather Cooper; Nicky Stirzaker and Jackie Holdrick; Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow; Elmarie Young and Maureen Griffin; Doug Joubert and Greg McLeod; John Marsh and Ray Robinson and Glen Scorgie and Mike Pitchers.

It was a magnificent result for the club that 11 out of the 15 Toti teams who entered have succeeded in going further. Good bowling to them all in the next round on Saturday, 17 September.

Well done to Val de Kok and Leonie Mills for coming from behind and beating Robyn Hutton and Jackie Holdrick in the final of the women’s drawn pairs. In the women’s nominated pairs, Doreen Salmond and Jean Snyman beat Julie Sutherland and Amanda Ninow; Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers defeated Heather Brown and Adrienne Robbins; and Elsie Walker and Tokkie de Kock overcame Jacqui Fouché and Margaret van Belkum. In the women’s handicap singles, Karen Shepherd defeated Elmarie Young; and Tokkie de Kock beat Margaret van Belkum. Congratulations to Greg McLeod who was triumphant in the men’s handicap singles final over Vince Phaal.

In the monthly men’s trips, the winners were Duncan Wright, Gustav Somers and Vish Studinski; in second place were Glen Scorgie, Barry Bush and Keith West; and Rob Troughton, Brad Cox and Shawn Sutherland won the second session.

At TGIF, Debbie Groom won the 100 board. Val de Kok’s number came up in the attendance draw but as she was not present, next week’s draw goes up to R300. Dawn Brunsdon’s number was drawn in the key draw, however she was not lucky enough to choose the correct key, so next week’s key is worth R5,150.

Watch the board for carded games, and remember that Picardy Bazooka bowls takes place on the morning of Sunday, 11 September. Birthday greetings are sent this week to Andy Jones, Lynn Joubert, Bryan Mudie, Noreen Butler, Steve Liebetrau, Bob Southey and Maureen Crawford. Good health and good bowling are wished to all.
