Huge medal haul for rhythmic gymnasts

Danielle, Lulu and Kelly have qualified to represent KZN at the national competition in Cape Town.

Toti gymnasts scooped a haul of medals at the KZN provincial competition in Glenwood on Saturday, 27 August.

Fusion Rhythmic gymnasts level one to three girls were awarded medals according to their scores.

Level one U7: Mieke Bester was awarded gold for first overall.

Level one U8: Leah Rubino was second with gold and Ciara O’Toole third with gold.

Level one U9: Amy-Lee Jones claimed third with gold and Emma Visagie fifth with silver.

Level two U8: Danielle Chandler was first overall, Abby Allen second overall and Emma Frank third overall. They all received gold medals.

Level two U9: Erin McCalgan was third with gold.

Level two U10: Silke Bester finished second with gold.

Level two U11: Keisha claimed fourth and gold, while level two O11 Mia de Beer scooped second and gold.

Level three U8: Oratile Moumakwa was awarded gold for first overall, as did level two U9 Jessica McCalgan for her first overall.

Level three U11: Kayla Steyn was third and level three O11 Kayla Sayner second. Both were awarded gold.

Danielle Rossouw placed third overall in level four U13 and Lulu Kweyama placed first in level four O15.

Kelly Lightfoot was first in level seven O15.

“I was really chuffed with their results,” said coach and club leader, Jess Odendaal. “They have really worked hard the last couple of weeks and their hard work has paid off.” Danielle, Lulu and Kelly have qualified to represent KZN at the national competition in Cape Town in October.

“This is the last competition for the year for levels one to three,” said Jess. “The level fours and sevens now need to work hard towards the national competition which will be their last one for the year.”
