AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club hosted a successful mixed fours festival at the weekend, and 20 teams took to the greens in the sunshine.

Although there was a festive atmosphere, there was also fierce competition, and in the end the team of Greg McLeod, Doug Joubert, Elsie Walker and Lynn Joubert were the victors.

Runners-up were Doreen Salmond, Eric Klopper, Adie Fuller and Denise Bingham. In third place were Simon Schanij, Lada and Dagmara Cizek and Mandy Schanij from Umkomaas. The five session prizes went to the following skips and their teams: First session, Tokkie de Kock; second, Barbara Beamson; third, Julie Sutherland; fourth, Vince Phaal; and fifth, John Hewgill. John Ledger, Leon van Rensburg, Laurel Ledger and Karen Shepherd took the sportsman’s prize.

Thanks go to main sponsors Warwick Wealth, and to their representatives Tamsin and Stuart for helping with prizegiving. Big thanks also to Heartlands and other sponsors, Dennis and Gladys Hughes, Jackie Holdrick, Glen Scorgie, Alec Stirzaker, Dallas Davis, Vince Marriot, Peter Callaghan and Ian Mills; to Alan McGregor and Glen Scorgie for the scoring; to Alf Bingham for the music; to Adrian and his kitchen staff; and to the bar staff, Colin, Dave, Lesley and a big thank you to Talla for all her hard work behind the scenes. Thank you to all who took part, especially the teams who travelled from Wanderers and the Bluff.

Congratulations to Barbara Beamson who is women’s senior singles champion, having a good win over Pam Chalder-Royle. Well done also to Pam as runner-up. In the men’s drawn pairs, Doug Joubert and Martin Birch beat Ian Mills and Rob Troughton.

In the Victory Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2, winners were Doug Joubert and Doris (Dave) McMillan. Runners-up were Dave Kemp and Jacqui Fouché. First session went to Pete Shepard and Amanda Ninow and the second session was won by Fred and Joyce Mackrory. Pete Shepard also won the drawn prize.

At TGIF Sue Welch won the 100 board. As Alan McGregor was not present, the attendance draw goes up to R250 next week. Michelle Pitchers drew the key, but sadly for her it wasn’t the lucky one. Next week’s key draw goes up to R4,620.

Diarise the Picardy Bazooka morning on Sunday, 11 September at 8.30am. Format is tabs-in, dress mufti, cost R20 and boerie rolls will be available for lunch for R20. The list is up on the board. Also check the board for carded games.

Good bowling to all who are playing in Port Natal pairs. Some of Toti BC’s women will be playing at Toti on Sunday, 4 September if spectators would like to go along and support them.

Many happy returns are sent this week to Steve Woor, Tokkie de Kock, Gert Richter, Bobby Henderson, Nita Meumann and Elmarie Young. Get well soon to all who are not too well right now.
