On-form Pletinckx leads Durban Runner category

Entries for the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon on 16 October are open.

AMANZIMTOTI Athletics Club reports that the Durban Runner Challenge on Sunday was well supported by members.

Despite the heavy rain in the morning, the start was fine and the morning turned out hot and sunny.

Terry Pletinckx was on form and first man home in his age category 50-59. Special thanks to Belinda for providing the soup and bread. Thanks to Chris for taking the club gazebo, which was much appreciated by all.

The club is looking for companies or a group of 10 people to man and assist water tables along the route for the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon on 16 October. Contact Chris via email at stange@lantic.net or call 083-301-3632.

The club will celebrate its 40th year as Amanzimtoti Athletic Club on 17 September at the clubhouse. The event will start at 2pm with a braai and salads cost R30 each. RSVP to Belinda on 083-408-0639 before 12 September. A cash bar will be available.

Upcoming races: 28 August Mandela Marathon starts at 6.30am. The club will sponsor the bus and driver. The cost will be R50 for petrol. Contact Thobekile Zama on 076-4740342. Money is to be paid in advance.

4 September: Formula 1 at Kings Park Athletic Stadium 21.1km run/walk and 10km run/walk starting at 6.30am.

11 September SAPS Striders Heritage Challenge at Kings Park Athletic Stadium 21.1km run/walk and 10km run/walk starting at 6.30am. This is a pre-entry race.

Entries for the Goss and Balfe Sapphire Coast Marathon on 16 October are open. This race will run/walk from Hutchison Park and back, which is due to Metro Rail and the damage to the railway line. Club members cannot take part in race. A helpers run will take place on 8 October, which members can use their times from as a Two Oceans and Comrades qualifier.

Should you not be able to do your time trial duties as per the list, make arrangements for someone to stand in for you.

Reflective belts are mandatory for time trials.

Weekly time trials are on Wednesdays with walkers starting at 5.30pm and runners at 6pm (both over 4km and 8km). Visitors are welcome to join in. Meet at the clubhouse at Hutchison Park.

On Saturdays there is an 11km run and walk from the clubhouse at 5.30am for walkers and 6am for runners. Tea, coffee and biscuits are served afterwards.
