Toti band needs your help to keep rocking

The Remedy Project hosts a golf day on Friday, 9 September at Toti Golf Club to raise funds to launch their first national tour.

A Toti band is riding high after their recent success on stage at the Kuswag Karnaval at the weekend.

The Remedy Project consists of four world-class musicians, all experienced professionals in their own right, and each a master at playing the instrument of their choice.

It took these guys very little time to realise they have a magical connection, having hit it off at their first jamming session.

Their genre is melodic, pop and rock. Band members are Sheldon De St Pern, (lead singer and song writer), Greg van Vuuren, (lead guitar), Barry De Beer, (bass guitar) and Ryan De Beer (drums).

Ryan play his first gig at the age of 16 and has gone from strength to strength ever since. Listening to music is his favourite pastime, and he has been inspired by some of the best rock musicians in the world.

He is motivated by imperfection and strives to get better and better at all he does. He has recorded albums with various bands in the past, but seriously wants to make a good name for himself now.

As a bonus for the band, Ryan is one half of a twin and his brother Barry is also part of the band. This special connection is reflected in their music.

Like his brother, Barry dreams of touring the world, even though he has never been abroad. As a family man, he enjoys gathering with his friends and family from whom he draws his inspiration.

He loves nature and has a scientific mind. He has been inspired by musicians like Kings of Leon, The Muse and Led Zeppelin.

His hobbies include league pool games, cutting hair, playing soccer, cooking and enjoying good food.

At 36, Greg is a self-taught muso. This true local ‘boykie’ has played in various small-time groups, always striving to improve.

In 1998 he played in a band that appeared alongside ‘Just Ginger’ and some other local talent, and later on, he played with a metal band that rocked Durban.

Greg is a keen surfer and bodyboarder who competed at provincial level body boarding for 15 years.

At 40 Sheldon is well-travelled and has previously been signed to a record label. He has released an album or two of his own and both his mother and father are musically talented.

Sheldon is inspired by musicians like Jeff Buckley, whose rendition of Hallelujah is his favourite piece of music.

He performed on stage with ‘The Commitments’ on their final tour in Oman and is considered a true entertainer.

Sheldon’s goal, which is shared by the rest of the band, is to become hugely successful, and to travel widely with the band. They aim to touch people positively through their music and spread joy.

“The band now stands on the brink of stardom, having sparked interest from countries as far as Germany and Sweden. What we need is a little push from Toti residents and businesses to help us on our way,” said the manager of the up-and-coming foursome, Linda Hide.

The Remedy Project will host a golf day on Friday, 9 September at Toti Golf Club to raise funds to launch their first national tour, as well as to fund CD and DVD recordings.

“There are a few places left for fourballs, hole sponsors and prizes. We have awesome raffles, vouchers and dinners to be won on the day,” said Linda. “The bonus is that the band will provide their own live entertainment at prize-giving to make this a party not to be missed.”

To participate, enter a fourball at R2,000, which includes refreshments and dinner, or sponsor a hole at R1,500 or prizes. To participate in the golf day or to book the band, email theremedyproject007@gmail.com or call Linda on 076-335-8759.
