THE Toti women’s hockey team had good results in the first half of the women’s first division hockey league earlier this year, ending up as one of the top five clubs.

They now are playing against the rest of the top five clubs to fight it out for final log positions at the end of league in September.

The Toti women have a strong team consisting of younger girls from Toti High School, some hockey players from the area, ex-provincial players as well as some very experienced ‘older’ players – even an ex Springbok. Although they are disadvantaged by not having a full size astro turf hockey field in the area, they practise on a mini astro turf at Warner Beach Preparatory School.

Under the guidance of coach Michael Baker, they have structured practises every Wednesday evening and have been able to adapt their games to be able to challenge teams from the top Durban clubs. They look forward to a successful second half of the season.

Any new players in the area who would like to find out more about the club are welcome to phone Kirst Wiggill on 083-677-6686 or Shane on 083-966-9667, or pop down to Warner Beach Prep’s senior campus on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 7.30pm to see how the club functions.
