AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club members is hard at work playing catch-up after the flooding of the greens, to get all its competitions finished ahead of the AGM and prize-giving on Saturday, 24 September.

The women’s senior singles is nearing completion, with Barbara Beamson beating Denise Bingham, to get her into the finals.

The men’s senior singles are also progressing well with Greg McLeod beating Dave McMillan in the first round and Barry Buckland in the second; while Ian Crouch (back in the race for the honours board after his surgery) beat Wessie van der Westhuizen in the first round and Boet Els in the second.

In the first rounds of women’s handicap singles, Leonie Mills beat Pam Chalder-Royle, and Karen Shepherd beat Marie van der Walt. In the men’s drawn pairs Ken Leech and Vish Studinski beat Vince Phaal and Greg Veldtman; and in nominated pairs Les (Snoopy) Brown and Mark Brodie beat Ken Leech and Keith Berry.

Steve Liebetrau had another win in the men’s novice singles against Martin Birch, and Greg Veldtman beat Alan Foster.

Four ABC members entered the KZN open singles tournament which was hosted by the Kingfisher region. They were Greg McLeod, Willem Pelzer, Jeanne Alexander and Tokkie de Kock. Well done to all four, but especially to Tokkie who got through to the quarter-finals before being knocked out.

Ian Crouch’s third win this week was at Scroungers. Barry Buckland was second and Heather Brown third on a competition secretary’s draw. Adie Fuller won plate A and Greg McLeod won plate B.

There are still a few rinks available for the Amanzimtoti mixed fours festival on Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 August. Go support your home club and stand a chance to win prizes at the same time.

At TGIF Alan Foster won the 100 board. Country member Laurens Roos was not present to collect on the attendance draw, so it will rise to R150 next time. Sue Welch won the chance to draw the right key in the key draw, but as she was unsuccessful the pot rises to R3,530 with 36 keys next week.

It seems this is a very popular week for birthdays, so greetings go out to Adie Fuller, Gerald Chalder-Royle, Alan Foster, Dave Gardner, Frank Quinn, Bill Williams, Andrew Walker and Micky Roche. Get well soon to any past or present members who are battling health issues this week, especially Ruth de Canha after her bad fall.
