CONGRATULATIONS to Robyn Hutton who defeated Val de Kok in the final of the women’s open singles at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club, and well done to Val for being a worthy runner-up.

Doreen Salmond, Denise Bingham and Gaynor Snyman won a close final against Jeanne Alexander, Lynn Joubert and Lesley Stephens-Viviers to become the drawn trips champions. Well done to all. Talla Stephens-Viviers had a good win over Joan van Rensburg in the handicap singles and Heather Brown and Adrienne Robbins beat Pam Chalder-Royle and Jenny Delport by one shot in the nominated pairs.

Greg McLeod had a convincing win over Ian Mills in the semi-final of the open singles. Sadly the final between Greg and Glen Scorgie was postponed because of rain. In the men’s senior singles, Lofty van Tonder beat Coy Schrauwen; Phil Perkins defeated Terry Morgan; and Boet Els narrowly beat Jeff van Belkum in 27 ends.

In the women’s monthly trips, winners were Doreen Salmond, Adrienne Robbins and William Sithole, runners-up were Marion Crouch, Cathy du Plooy and Talla Stephens-Viviers, and the second session was won by Lulu Bingham, Elmarie Young and Linda Hobbs. Stella Erasmus won the 100 board, and Linda McGregor won the spider which raised R142,65 for Hospice.

In the men’s 2-4-2 Herbert and Gerhard Hofmann were the winners. Second were Glen Scorgie and Peter Callaghan, and Duncan Wright and Owen Turner took the second session. In the Victory Kwikspar mixed 2-4-2, Ian and Marion Crouch were the winners and Glen Scorgie and Jackie Holdrick came second. Neville Roscoe and Maureen Griffin won the first session and Alec and Nicky Stirzaker took the second session. Heather Brown won the lucky draw.

At TGIF Paul Davies won the 100 board. Eddie Baker’s number was drawn in the attendance draw but sadly he was not at the club, so next week’s prize is worth R750. It was not Jacqui Birch’s lucky night because, while her number was chosen for the key draw, the key she chose did not fit. Better luck next week when the key will be worth R1,970.

Remember ABC hosts the senior masters this weekend on 30 and 31 July, so go along and support the players Doreen Salmond and Barbara Beamson. Good bowling to them and also Tokkie de Kock playing in the open masters at Hillcrest. There are some carded competitions on 30 July which have been rain delayed. Good bowling to all players in the Scottburgh tournament.

Many happy returns go this week to Alex Clark, Joan Gordon-Hughes and Corinna Troughton. For all those who are not well or in hospital, get well soon.
