Toti 2nds end season third on log

The spirit within the side and the dedication shown from all involved has been special, which led to the third place finish on the log.

A MOTIVATED Toti second rugby team ran out at home on Saturday, 9 July against SA Home Loans Durban Collegians. Collegians took the early lead and managed to score two quick tries to make it 10-0 to the visitors.

Toti then answered with quick play from eighth man, Pieter Harmse who put the winger, Dian Van Rooyen away down the touch line to score a great try. The half time score was 10-5.

The second half saw Collegians score again to make it 15-5. The Toti seconds never stopped playing and scored a great try through outside centre, Leandro Steenkamp to make it 15-10, however a penalty to Collegians moved them to 18-10. With time running out, Toti scored a great try from a line out with flanker, Wayde Shore scoring in the corner to make it 18-15.

The final score 23-15 saw Durban Collegians take the honours. Backline Spur man of the match award went to scrumhalf, Armand van der Walt and the forwards man of the match award went to eighth man, Pieter Harmse.

The 2016 season saw the Toti second side ending third on the log – a huge jump in form compared to the previous year. The side thanks the Amanzimtoti community for the great support throughout the season.

Huge thanks were extended from team management, Willem Swanepoel and Heinrich Besselaar (coaches) and Mike Techet (manager) along with the sponsors, players and their loved ones for the awesome season. The next task for this talented bunch of players will be the Murray Cup in two weeks’ time.
