Junior athletes sizzle in cross country schools league event

At the last league event, the club's athletes also won three more age group events when Njabulo Khuzwayo won the overall boys U17 to 19 event, with Tyrique Naidoo (Kingsway High) a close second despite only being 15-years-old.

ATHLETES from Amanzimtoti Athletics Club ended the greater Durban cross-country schools league in dominant form earlier this month.

Lee-anne Blake (from Kingsway High) maintained her unbeaten streak by also winning the last two mixed ages girls’ leagues.

She has now attained the remarkable feat of remaining unbeaten by any age group girl in these leagues over the last three years, despite only being 15-years-old.

Eli Barnett (also from Kingsway) has showed remarkable progress and finished in the top four and even third on two occasions in the mixed girls’ races despite being only 13-years-old at the time.

At the last league event, the club’s athletes also won three more age group events when Njabulo Khuzwayo won the overall boys U17 to 19 event, with Tyrique Naidoo (Kingsway High) a close second despite only being 15-years-old. They therefore won the boys U19 and U17 races respectively.

Anele Blake (Kingsway High) surprised when she won the girls U17 race at the last league event as well, after recently converting from sprint events.

Tyrique is joining Lee-anne Blake and Sesi Mbatha (Kingsway High School’s SA championships bronze medal winner in the girls U16 400m) at Prestige College in Pretoria from next term.
