THIS Saturday, Amanzimtoti Golf Club ‘s women’s league team travels to Umkomaas to take on the Port Shepstone Frogs.

Good luck to Charmain and Liz, Brenda and Jacqui, and Lass and Estelle who will represent the club in this fixture.

Bon voyage to Colleen Smit, a regular league member, who is heading off to colder climes for the holidays.

Sean Roberts scored the perfect fluke on Saturday, while playing in the men’s competition. The truth behind the shot is that he played from the fourth teeing ground, bemoaned a bad shot, and then spent several minutes behind the green searching for his ball until someone suggested he look in the hole. Regardless of how it happened, a hole-in-one cannot be ignored, so well done to Sean on achieving that item on his bucket list.

Another result worthy of note was Gill Symons competing in the midweek IPS played on Thursday. She beat all the men contenders, with the second placed Hu Turnbull three shots adrift, and he in turn beat Mike Tait on a count out.

It was very good to see the huge turnout for the Round Table sponsored day on Wednesday. The course is playing well and the club trusts all the visitors enjoyed the Toti course and clubhouse hospitality.

On Friday afternoon, 30 players competed in the nine hole sundowner, with Jos Matthysen taking the spoils with 23 points, Bee Govender in second on 21, and Mike Igesund counted out into third place.

On Saturday the women played ‘IPS on steroids’, and Liz Donald once again rose to the top of the field with a fine 42 points, albeit format assisted, while new woman Francis Hoole came in with a superb 41 and Delene Berry sealed third place on 40 points. Liz also picked up nearest the pin on the 17th, but heroine of the day was definitely Gerda Heydenrych who had a two club on the seventh and in doing so won the R240-plus kitty.

The men played a fourball alliance, and Peter Avellini, Martin Tait, Gordon Dunlop and Hu Turnbull won by virtue of a count out on 97 points. In second were Brian Rhodes, CVO, Clive Fryer and Rob Kruger. Third place went to Nico and Janco Vogel, Willie Boucher and Hayden Haggie on 94 points. The two nearest the pins went to Hu on the 7th and CVO on the 17th. Rob Kruger was also the lucky recipient of the attendance draw.
