NEXT weekend will see the competition hotting up on the bowling greens, as the final games of the Port Natal Bowls 2016 inter-club league play out.

So far, Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s women’s teams have been flying the flag high and their positions on the log are Toti A third; Toti B first; Toti C second, and Toti D first in their respective divisions.

Last weekend Toti A (1st division) narrowly lost to very stiff opposition in Parkhill A 2-3; Toti B (third division) won 5-0 against Durban Wanderers A (shot difference +27); Toti C (division four) won 5-0 against Durban Collegians B (shot difference +39); Toti D (seventh division) beat vs Firwood A 5-0. Well done to all players for representing the club so well, and keep it up for the final games.

The men also did well this week in league. Toti A (first division) lost 3-4 to Westville CC A; Toti B (second division) won 5-2 against vs Durban C; Toti C (third division) beat Lahee Park B 4-3; Toti D (fifth division) won 5-0 against Winklespruit A; Toti E (seventh division) took on Firwood A and lost 0-5; Toti F (seventh division) beat Stella Park C 5-0.

In club competitions, Boet Els beat Andrew Walker in a second round men’s open singles game, and Alan Foster beat Paul Davies in the first round-robin game of the men’s novice singles.

The entry list for the women’s novice singles and the draw and cardings for women’s handicap singles and nominated pairs are now on the board.

Winners of the women’s trips this month were Elaine Critchlow, Norma Raath and Maureen Griffin (4+25). Runners-up were Doreen Salmond, Leigh Callaghan and Adrienne Robbins. Heather Brown, Val de Kok and Dot Liebetrau won second session. Maureen Griffin also won the spider which will donate R200.06 to the blind this time. Norma Raath won the 100 board.

Big Chicks winners were John Marsh, Vince Marriott, Andrew Pearce and Leigh Callaghan on a count out with 4+15. Runners-up were Adie Fuller, Rob Troughton, Peter Snyman and Karen Shepherd, with Greg McLeod, Doug and Lynn Joubert and Mike Pitchers third.

First session went to Doreen Salmond, Dennis Hughes, Eric Klopper and Steve Liebetrau. Second session was won by Peter Callaghan, Clive Frank, Shane Tocher and Denise Bingham. The 13th prize, donated by Brian Pascoe, went to Pam Chalder-Royle, Leonie Mills, Betty Sawyer and Shawn Sutherland, and most bowls to Nita Meumann, Paul Els, William Sithole and Dot Liebetrau. The 100 board was won by Doreen Salmond.

Tab 12 came out in the TGIF attendance draw, but as Andy Jones was not present, the pot will rise to R450. Micky Roche won the 100 board, and Miles Cartwright with number 109 had a chance to draw a key, but as it didn’t fit the pot, this rises to R8,940.

The entry list is on the board for the Victory KwikSpar nominated mixed interclub 2-4-2 on Friday, 24 June, and the Pam Golding women’s winter tournament will take place on 29 and 30 June.

The only birthdays this week are Alf Bingham and Sue Welch, and best wishes are sent to all those having ops or not feeling in the best of health. May you all recover quickly so that you return to the greens again soon.

Finally condolences are sent to the family and friends of Dall Smith, wife of the late Allan Smith, on her death.
