Thirds thump Hillcrest 75-7

The next fixtures see the first and second teams travel to Jaguars on Saturday afternoon, 4 June with kick-off at 2pm and 3.30pm.

AMANZIMTOTI Rugby Club’s weekend matches resulted in a mixed bag of results.

The Toti first team had a hard-fought battle, eventually losing 22–14 to Rovers.

Eagle Canyon Spur man of the match awards went to prop Renier Mostert and scrumhalf Matthew McDonald.

For the second team, the game could easily have seen a strong and unbeaten Rovers second team receive their first defeat of the season by a motivated Toti team. The first half saw Toti score two great tries through firstly a well worked line-out that saw Abraham Barnard dot down and then Lihle Mazibuko chase a well-placed kick which he dotted down in the corner. Neither of the kicks were converted. This saw Toti going into the second half at 10–10.

In the second half, the Toti boys were again pressurising the Rovers team which resulted in a further try by centre Jacques Blignaut. The final score was 27–15 to Rovers. The score line was certainly flattering if you were witnessing the match live. Eagle Canyon Spur man of the match awards went to prop Travis Clarke and wing Lihle Mazibuko. The boys are looking forward to their next match away against Jaguars.

The Toti third team defeated Hillcrest thirds 75–7 on Saturday at Hutchison Park. Toti scored 11 tries with three going to captain Dwayne Wallace and four going to centre Louis Le Grange. Adrian Maritz converted 10 of the 11 tries for a personal tally of 20 points on the day. It was a good all-round performance by all the players.

The next fixtures see the first and second teams travel to Jaguars on Saturday afternoon, 4 June with kick-off at 2pm and 3.30pm. The third team will take on Ogwini Bafana at Toti also on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 3pm.

Once again a huge thank you to all the club’s sponsors and the many supporters who came down in numbers to support the first and second teams on Friday night, as well as the thirds on Saturday afternoon.
