Mambas hit the Karkloof trails

It was a great social weekend with magic riding.

A GROUP of eight Amanzimtoti Cycling Club MTB Mambas left Toti and took to the road to ride the fabulous mountain bike trails in Karkloof.

They stayed at Shawswood which is situated 23kms from Howick on the Karkloof/Rietvlei Road and had three fabulous days of true mountain biking, trying out the legendary Boomslang trail which brings one above the tranquil Karkloof Falls picnic sight, riding routes that wind down through plantations back onto forestry roads, crossing numerous streams and bridges – the choices were endless.

The main attraction on Shawswood is its waterfall, Grey Mare’s Tail which stands 101m high. So on Sunday morning, they were treated to a guided tour through the forest and up to the waterfall. It was a great social weekend with magic riding.

Other Mambas riders had the courage to conquer the mighty Umko Challenge which took place on 28 May. No-one could catch the club’s Brennan Anderson in the 45km challenge, as he came first in a time of 1.53.51 and with an impressive 15-minute lead. Liezel Davis did the women proud by coming second in the women’s category and first in her age category in a time of 3.16.47. Werner Hefer managed a respectable 2.27.57, Shaun Tischendorf 2.45.58 and Malcolm Wallace 2.47.10,

In the 20km race, Ethan Barnett managed 1.38.33, followed closely by Glen Barnett 1.38.37.

The Roadies supported the Green Hub Blue Lagoon ride this past Sunday, which was a fundraiser for the Childhood Cancer Foundation. A donation of R50 got them a choice of ride in either of the 10km, 25km, 45km or 75km distances and a hot drink as well as a muffin.
