SEVERAL honours board competitions were played at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club on Saturday.

The first round of the men’s nominated pairs results saw John Hewgill and Mike Roberts beat Terry Morgan and Jeff van Belkum.

Les Brown and Mark Brodie had a close win over Vince Marriott and Gustav Somers; Rob Troughton and Neville Roscoe defeated Tony Cam and Alan McGregor; Adie Fuller and Trevor Zulch beat Peter Callaghan and Dave Kemp; and Bobby Henderson and Brian Crause overcame Alf Bingham and Leon van Rensburg.

In the men’s handicap singles, Vince Phaal defeated Mike Pitchers; Doug Joubert beat Martin Young; and Greg McLeod won over Greg Veldtman. Tokkie de Kock beat Barbara Beamson in the women’s open singles in 25 ends; and Nita Meumann, Amanda Ninow, Jackie Holdrick and Elmarie Young won their semi-final match in the drawn fours against Jeanne Alexander, Michelle Pitchers, Denise Bingham and Margaret van Belkum.

In the monthly women’s trips, winners were Nita Meumann, Betty Sawyer and Linda McGregor; with Lulu Bingham, Trish Farmer and Bessie Vergottini coming second. Heather Brown, Lys McDonald and Dot Liebetrau won the second session. Sue Blount won the 100 board and Trish Farmer won the spider, which raised R108,20 for Hospice.

Herbert Hofmann and Bill Riley won the men’s 2-4-2. Terry Morgan and Rob Troughton were runners-up and Glen Scorgie and Peter Callaghan won the second session.

Vince Marriott was the 100 board winner at TGIF. John Allers was not in attendance when his number came up in the members’ draw, so next week’s prize is worth R300. Jackie Holdrick’s number was chosen in the key draw, but sadly Tokkie de Kock could not open the box on her behalf. Next week’s lucky key will be worth R7,020.

The winners of Big Chicks were Doreen Salmond, Dallas Davis, Dennis Hughes and Eric Klopper. In second place were Willem Pelser, Barbara Beamson, Jenny Delport and Jackie Holdrick; and third were Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Marion Crouch and Julie Sutherland. The first session went to Glen Scorgie, Terry Morgan, Talla Stephens-Viviers and Martin Birch; and the second session to Greg McLeod, Doug and Lynn Joubert and Mike Pitchers. Most bowls went to Alan McGregor, Brian Crause, Jeff van Belkum and Linda McGregor, and the 13th prize was won by Herbert Hofmann, Gustav Somers, Steve Evenwel and Sylveigh Ananiadis. Thanks to Brian Pascoe for his sponsorship and also bar and kitchen staff.

Bowlers should note that the semis and finals of Port Natal mixed pairs will now take place at Toti on Sunday, 29 May, and mutton will be played on Sunday, 5 June. Players from around the country who played recently in SA nationals were very impressed with ABC. They praised the conditions of the greens, especially B green as well as the garden area. Hence thanks go to Mickey Roche, Terry Morgan and Nicky Stirzaker.

Well done to ABC’s country member Nan Roos and team who won silver medals in the SA national fours.

If you have put your name down for women’s nominated pairs or handicap singles, pay as soon as possible. The list is on the board for men’s novice singles, which has Sunday, 5 June as the closing date.

More teams are needed for the women’s winter tournament taking place on 29 and 30 June. Take along any unwanted items to sell at the winter table.

Good bowling to Jeanne Alexander and Tokkie de Kock in the qualifying masters at the weekend. Remember Friday, 27 May is Victory Spar mixed 2-4-2 at 1pm for 1.30pm. There is space for more teams in this fun competition, so add your names to the list on the board. Many happy returns this week go to Bill Streek and Dean Hunter; and wishing those who are sick a speedy return to health.
